Good Afternoon. Professional Golf hasn’t even begun to experience the full fallout from the latest Tiger Woods drama.

Beyond his own personal and legal ramifications, consider all of the many things he’s involved with: Augusta National’s The Patch is set to open April 5th, and Tiger designed it; TGL is largely dependent on him for viewership; he’s the chairman of the Future Competition Committee, which is working with the TOUR’s new CEO to shape the future of the sport; and he was days away from making a decision about the Ryder Cup captaincy.

Quick Recap: Houston Open

Somebody cutting onions?

30 months ago, Gary Woodland had brain surgery.

It was a successful operation, he recovered well, and the PGA TOUR welcomed their 2019 U.S. Open Champion back with open arms. The fact that he was even able to compete at a high level was a minor miracle, and that he was playing pretty solid golf was a feat worth celebrating on its own. Who cared if he won or not?

While his journey back from surgery came with a lot of adoring attention, and Woodland was appreciative and grateful for it, internally he was struggling to function - once rushing to a porta-potty and breaking down in tears at a tournament.

20 days ago, he sat down in an interview with Rex Goddard and explained that, in the time since the surgery, he’s been really struggling with PTSD.

Yesterday, he won for the first time in 7 years.

He said this week that going public with his struggles made him feel “1,000 lbs lighter.”

His play has reflected that, and it’s been amazing to watch.

We all know how difficult golf can be on a person mentally, especially at the highest levels.

To see someone speak openly and honestly, get the thousand-pound gorilla off their back, and go play with that kind of mental freedom is a truly incredible, human thing to witness.

It’s comebacks like Gary Woodland’s that make sport so meaningful.

What a great story, especially during a week when the sport sorely needed it.

Final Leaderboard: -21 G Woodland; -16 N Hojgaard; -15 J Keefer, M W Lee; -14 S Stevens; -13 S Yellamaraju, J Day, J Knapp, C Gotterup
