Quick Update: John Deere Classic
Haters will say the John Deere Classic is too boring to watch.
“Wanna spruce up a boring sunday... put double your net worth on a football game and then get drunk watchin it. Beats the shit out of any new years eve you'll ever have."
That’s the plan for this weekend.
What about the leaderboard?
Jonas Blixt : You guys had Jonas on your card as the first round leader, right? Right? He’s solo and -9 after round one. Let’s see if he can stick around.
Grayson Murray: Great round (64) from Grayson. He’s sitting in solo 2nd at -7 and is part of the early wave going off this morning.
Everyone Else: There’s a mess of golfers sitting at -6, including our pick to win Adam Schenk. Even though the event isn’t star studded, we could be in for a fun finish on Sunday.
💰 Shanks Picks 💰
We are alive heading into the weekend.
Here’s how our picks from Wednesday are doing + a weekend bet:
Outright Winner: Adam Schenk +3000 - He is in the thick of the group that is -6 and three off the lead.
Top Five: Adam Hadwin +650 - Adam is currently -1. Gonna need a push for this one.
Top Ten: Chris Kirk +340 - Played his first round -3 and in good position to move into the top 10.
Top Twenty: Sepp Straka +220 - The big man was +2. Cut line is a risk, top twenty would be a miracle.
Long Shots: Chez Reavie +6000 played a solid round at -2. Still a long shot.
Make Cut Parlay: Adam Schenk, Chris Kirk, Adam Hadwin, Nick Taylor, Sepp Straka, and Ludvig Aberg. Sepp and Nick Taylor are in danger of missing the cut, which is projected to be at -1.
Quick Update: Women’s US Open
Xiyu Lin and Hyo Joo Kim, who won the 2014 Amundi Evian Championship for her lone major title, own a one-stroke lead over two-time LPGA Tour winner Leona Maguire, Hae Ran Ryu, 2021 runner-up Nasa Hataoka, 2016 USA Curtis Cup competitor Bailey Tardy, and amateur Aine Donegan.
The star-studded group of Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson, and world No.1 Jin Young Ko shot 76, 74, and 79, respectively. Not good…
You may have noticed we didn’t mention Rose Zhang…
She finished her round +2 and six off the lead with a lot of golf left.
Minor setback for a major comeback.
Golf Shots Heard Round The World
Flash Mob: It seems a flash mob has broken out on the first tee of LIV London. What does this mean for the future of the game?
Heartbroken: ICYMI: Brooks Koepka talked a bunch of sh*t on his LIV teammate Matt Wolfe, and then Matt Wolfe said he was heartbroken to have to hear that through the media. It was kind of a d*ck move though.
Meeting The Moment: Walking all 18 holes of the first round at Pebble, Will Knights from The Fried Egg gives us a deep cut.
LIV July Update
Talor Gooch became the first player in LIV history to have THREE total wins, and he did it all in a single season. He birdied the final hole with a 15-foot putt at Valderrama for a 4-under 67 and a one-shot victory over Bryson DeChambeau.
Now let’s talk about some implications…
At this point it would be difficult to come up with a legitimate reason to keep Talor Gooch out of the Ryder Cup discussion. The guy has 3 out of the last 5 LIV Tour events, all coming from courses NOT in the US. Get him on European soil to tear it up in the name of the USA. Full stop.
The same thing goes for Brooks Koepka. He was the leader for quite some time in the Masters and won the PGA Championship. During his time on the LIV Tour this year he has a win and 3 top-10 finishes.
Bryson DeChambeau is back. Not back like Rickie Fowler back, but he is totally back and a legit contender. He has finished in the top-10 in his last 3 starts. And while you’re at it, check out his absurd shot. I LITERALLY COULD NEVER.
Now let’s talk about the next event, starting today, LIV London…
From July 7th to July 9th , the next event will be at Centurion Club in Hertfordshire. This is kind of a big one folks, with tickets already sold out for Saturday. And as an added bonus, live music on the main stage with DJ SNAKE on July 7th and ALESSO on July 8th. Expert picks have either Brooks Koepka (heavy favorite), Cameron Smith, Bryson DeChambeau, or Talor Gooch (of course) taking the individual title.
Speaking of Brooks Koepka, ahead of the London event, he has made it very clear he is not happy with one of his teammates, Matthew Wolff, after he told SI.com, “I've basically given up on him—a lot of talent, but I mean the talent's wasted.”
Speaking of the team aspect, Cameron Smith said, “I think it’s definitely a different style of golf to watch, and there’s definitely a lot more stuff going on with the teams. It’s interesting to watch. I actually love watching it,” in response to Nick Faldo, who made comments last week about whether LIV would survive in the future and remain part of the golf ecosystem.
Speaking of old people who aren’t with the picture, Louis Oosthuizen has called on LIV Golf to be sanctioned by the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) ahead of its proposed merger with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour because 'it's not a real reflection of what's going on here'.

Pure, So Pure.
Such a smooth golf swing…one that all of us should hope to mirror.

Golf Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke
I don’t have $600 and I certainly don’t have the golf game to own this highly coveted TaylorMade US Women’s Open bag. If you’re feeling particularly patriotic today or are thinking about spending fat cheddar on something that will surely make people simultaneously jealous and annoyed, here’s the bag for you!
That's all folks! Stay hydrated out on the course this weekend, ladies.
