For the last week, as he’s been for the last year, Rory McIlroy was distracted by off-course drama.

This time, it was the whole kerfuffle with his spot on the PGA Tour policy board, or rather, the lack thereof - a process he referred to as “complicated” and “messy”.

That mess was followed by rumors of a rift between Tiger Woods and Rory.

Rory downplayed it, but it seems that Tiger and the rest of the members of the board don’t agree with Rory on what the future of golf looks like.

Then Rory was appointed to a different, sub-committee, who’s purpose is to handle negotiations with PIF, I guess.

Yet, despite all of the bullsh*t, we got to see a resurgent Rory on Sunday.

He had an eight-hole charge where he made four birdies and two eagles. Despite a closing double bogey, he still ended up beating Xander Schauffele by five strokes.

Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Brooks Koepka are headed into the 2024 PGA Championship having all won their last start. That’s the best golf news the men’s professional game has had in a while.
