Your takeaway from that should be that golf is a beautiful and confounding game and that it’s also incredibly difficult to bet on.

You’d be hard pressed to find a single sharp that had Brian Campbell winning for the 2nd time this year. (His first win was in February at the Mexico Open.)

Campbell first played the John Deere Classic as an exemption 10 years ago while he was still in college. Since then, he’s been grinding away on the Korn Ferry Tour.

His only top 30 finish of this season was when he won in Mexico and now he’s on a short list of players that have won twice in the 2025 season:

In his post-round interview after beating Emiliano Grillo in a playoff, Amanda Bolonis asked him what he would tell his younger self - his answer could probably help all of us weekend hacks too.

“Oh man, the advice I would give is just you really got to dig deep and trust yourself,” he said. “It’s easier said than done, but what worked for me a lot was trusting a lot of things I used to do when I was a kid. Getting back to enjoying the game and loving the game for what it is and just having fun with it.”
