⛳️ Cantlay is a putting machine.
Plus: Tiger WD's, Spieth DQ's, Thomas misses cut and Scottie can't putt.
Good Morning! Welcome to Shanks. The west coast swing has been a bit messy for the PGAT. Pebble was called after three rounds, the WM Open was a sh*t show, and now three of the biggest stars on tour wont be playing the weekend at Riv; Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas.
All eyes are upon Patrick Cantlay to save the weekend.
Here's what we've got for ya today:

Quick Update: The Genesis
Cantlay Is A Putting Machine, Scheffler Is Not
You may not like him, but Patrick Cantlay is your clubhouse leader after two rounds.
He’s gained 6+ shots on the field putting.
He has a five stroke lead heading into the third round.
He is our pre-tournament pick to win at +1600.
He is not a fan favorite, but this weekend, he is our favorite. God bless you Patrick Cantlay.
Patrick Cantlay leads at Riviera by 5, the largest 36-hole lead on the PGA Tour since Brian Harman led by 5 at The Open last summer.
Over the last 20 years, players who lead by 5 through 2 rounds on the PGA Tour win 72% of the time.

The putter is still a problem for Scottie Scheffler, unfortunately.
It bears repeating that his ball striking over the last year has been second only to early aughts Tiger Woods. Yes, that good.
If Scottie was middle of the pack with the flatstick, we would be watching historic golf right now. Someone, please, for the sake of golf, help this man.
Maybe he needs a LAB Putter like Adam Scott, Lucas Glover, and Will Zalatoris?
Some of Scottie Scheffler's misses from this week:
2 ft 6 in
8 ft 5 in
9 ft 7 in
5 ft 9 in
5 ft 5 in
3 ft 5 in (this was a 3 putt bogey from 9 feet)
3 ft 7 in (the video below)
9 ft 1 in8 misses from inside of 10 feet. Currently 9 back.

What about everybody else?
As you’ve probably heard by now, Tiger Woods WD’d on the 7th hole yesterday. Looks like he came down with flu-like symptoms the night before and couldn’t make it through the second round. We will see him again next month.
Jordan Spieth was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard, which is hilarious because it’s one of those dumb golf rules that sets social media on fire with debates about whether it should even be a rule or not. Just one of the many reasons I love golf - the absurdity of some of the arguments combined with the fervor of the people making their case.
Justin Thomas missed the cut.
Is it safe to say that with those three popular golfers out for the weekend, and a not very popular guy on top of the leaderboard, the PGAT probably dreamed up a little more for a Signature Event?
Shanks Picks Recap
If Patrick Cantlay doesn’t hold on to win this week, we are going to be very, very sad.
Winner: Patrick Cantlay
Patrick, Patrick, he’s our man! If he can’t do it, nobody can!
Top Five: Ludvig Aberg
Have they shown more than one swing of Ludvig’s on broadcast? He is two-under and T-31. He could still make a move.
Top Ten: Adam Scott
Tied with Ludvig at two-under.
Top Twenty: Tiger Woods
Okay, this bet was admittedly dumb. If you picked him top-twenty on my recommendation, and your bet is twenty bucks or less, DM me and I’ll Venmo you to make up for being a dolt.
Longshot: Hideki Matsuyama
Not a bad longshot pick, he is currently T9, but I don’t think anyone is catching Cantlay this weekend.

Youtubers To Compete In PGAT Event
The PGAT has finally made a forward thinking move.
Friday, they announced a Monday qualifier for the Myrtle Beach Classic, but there’s a twist - it features some of the most famous golf youtubers in the world.
If you’re not hip to it, Youtube golf is HUGE.
These guys regularly get more views than LIV Golf and oftentimes match or exceed the views the PGAT gets.
Youtube is where young people watch golf, so the PGAT giving some of these widely popular players a chance to qualify is a really smart move on their part, which seems rare of late. The combined viewership will likely exceed the average tour event by a lot.
The list includes Grant Horvat, Micah Morris, Luke Kwon from Good Good Golf, Dan Rapaport from Barstool Sports, Nick Stubbe aka Fat Perez of Bob Does Sports, one of the BustaJack group, George Bryan from the Bryan Bros, and Peter Finch, who's based in the UK.
According to the PGAT press release, all players “meet PGA Tour Tournament Regulations for sponsor exemptions, requiring a USGA handicap of 0.0 or better”.

Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke
So, apparently, the biggest complaint about the LAB Putters is that they are ugly. Who would’ve thought anything mattered other than making putts?
Anyway, LAB listened to the complaints.
According to their site:
“Ever since we launched our first putter, Directed Force, golfers have been asking if we could make it less weird. DF3 is that putter. We took a chisel to the original Lie Angle Balanced putter to make DF3 smaller and sleeker while honoring the shape of the putter that started it all for us.”
That’s all folks! See you Monday.
