On Wednesday, we wrote about Rory McIlroy being the hottest golfer on the planet. Fast forward to Friday and he was fighting just to make the cut. He pulled it off, making birdies on 3 of his last 4 holes to shoot 4-under and sneak into the weekend. He’s still seven shots back.

The guy he’s chasing? Scottie Scheffler, who we also said felt due. Nailed it.

After a solid opening round, Scottie came out blazing on Friday, firing an 8-under 62 to tie the course record and grab the solo lead at 11-under.

He leads by one over Taylor Pendrith, Min Woo Lee (one of our picks this week), and Ryan Gerard.

Plenty of action left in Houston, and with weather in the mix, things could get fun.
