Quick Recap: The 153rd Open Championship

How on earth did sports writers in the early to mid-2000s continue to find new ways to describe Tiger Woods’ greatness?
I’m already running out of ways to describe Scottie Scheffler’s play—and he’s only been at it for a small portion of the time that Tiger was.
At times, it feels like Scottie’s golf ball is magnetically attracted to fairways and flagsticks. When the putter is on too? No one can match him.
As Billy Foster said earlier in the week, Scottie is “in a different class and simply brilliant.”
He made Sunday at The Open feel as uneventful as Tiger Woods’ 2000 U.S. Open victory, which he won by 15 strokes.
Yeah, after making birdie on three of the first five holes, there was one small hiccup on the 8th, where Scottie made double, but the closest anyone would get to him was four strokes.
It’s Scottie, a pretty large gap, and then everyone else.
His peers know it too - just read the things they say about him here.
Alright, enough words. Let’s allow his stats to do the talking.
Scottie played the par 3’s in 6-under for the week. The best par three performance in Open history. Source.
Scottie was 59/63 on putts 10 feet and in. Source
He has now won 12 times since March of 2024.
He’s 111-under-par in majors since beginning of 2020, 46 shots better than anyone else in that span. Source
He’s converted 10 straight outright 54-hole leads (Tiger has the record with 36).
We could go on, but you get the point. He’s flat out dominant and he’s just one U.S. Open victory away from the career grand slam.
A fun wrinkle to the Grand Slam discourse next year at Shinnecock Hills? U.S. Open Sunday, June 21st, is also Scottie Scheffler's 30th birthday.
