An American wins in Europe.
Billy Horschel came out on top at the BMW PGA Championship, defeating Rory McIlroy and Thriston Lawrence in a dramatic three-man playoff at Wentworth on Sunday, pocketing $1.53 million in prize money.
The trio tied at 20 under par, leading to the tournament's first playoff in 11 years. Lawrence stumbled first, bogeying the 18th after a trip to the water, leaving it down to Horschel and McIlroy. McIlroy, aiming for his second win after his 2014 triumph, birdied 18 again, but Horschel clinched victory with an incredible eagle putt, making him the first American to win the event twice.

Starting with his loss to Bryson DeChambeau at the U.S. Open, followed by letting the Irish Open slip from his grasp last week, and culminating in a playoff defeat to Billy Horschel yesterday, 2024 has been a year of agonizing near-misses for Rory McIlroy.
It’s easy to forget that he won the Dubai Championship in January and the Wells Fargo Championship in May, as his three runner-up finishes this summer have dominated the storyline.

Netflix “Full Swing” producer Chad Mumm launched Pro Shop earlier this year alongside former Puck News co-founder Joe Purzycki and acquired the content studio Skratch from the PGA Tour.
