He’s the only guy with real captaincy experience who actually wants the job. Stewart Cink has only been an assistant. Steve Stricker isn’t interested. Tiger Woods isn’t in a position to do it. And after the last go-around, Zach Johnson and Keegan Bradley were never getting the call.

Prediction: the U.S. probably loses again. But at some point, maybe that’s what it takes to force real change. Bottom is when you stop digging.

Zurich Classic: Smalley & Springer Lead, Fitz Bros Chasing

The team golf this weekend has actually become quite meaningful.

Alex Smalley and Hayden Springer are in the lead at -16 - neither of them have ever won on TOUR. A win would be huge for their careers.

Meanwhile, Matt Fitzpatrick can help his brother Alex gain his TOUR card with a win. Alex is a DP World Tour member, and has a win under his belt there this season. They are one shot behind the American duo at -15.

Could we be in for another weekend of “USA!” chants?

One of our picks of the week, Tom Hoge & Billy Horschel (+7000) is tied with the Fitzpatrick Bros at -15. They are also American, for the record.
