Quick Update: Valero Texas Open
It’s been two years since Brian Harman won The Open.
Since then, zero wins.
Yet after two rounds of play, he’s got the solo lead at 12-under. He’s four stokes ahead of the next guy, Keith Mitchell, who hasn’t won since 2019. Behind the two of them, there’s about 20 guys in the five to six-under range.
The optimist would say that our picks, Jordan Speith (-4) and Denny McCarthy (-5) are still in contention, but the cushion that Brian Harman built for himself may prove to be insurmountable.
Meanwhile, world No.5 Ludvig Aberg and World No. 6 Hideki Matsuyama both missed the cut. Not necessarily what you want to see from them one week ahead of The Masters.
Sam Burns, Matt Fitzpatrick, Max Homa, Tom Kim, and last years Valero winner Akshay Bhatia also missed the cut.
