Good Morning. Rejoice, good patrons of the game, for Saturday at The Masters is here, and the world turns as it should.
Rory McIlroy Shares His Driving Secrets
His accuracy with the driver wasn’t great yesterday, but he’s still one of the most prolific drivers of all time.

The Masters: Rory is Rolling

Last year, with his Masters win, Rory McIlroy became the sixth golfer of all time to complete the career Grand Slam.
This year, he’s put himself in prime position to become just the fourth player ever to win back-to-back Masters.
As impressive as that is, how he’s doing it might be even more remarkable.
Last year, notably, he made four double bogeys throughout the tournament. No one had ever made that many doubles and still won.
According to his interview yesterday, Jack Nicklaus told him ahead of this year’s Masters, “no f*cking doubles.” Apparently, he took that to heart - he hasn’t made any so far.
He’s -12 through two rounds while ranking 90th out of 91 players in driving accuracy. That’s hard to wrap your head around.
In the second round, he made nine birdies, including six of his last seven and the final four in a row.
His wedge game was incredible all day. He gained +3.10 strokes on the field in SG:ARG - the next closest player was at +1.7.
Overall, he’s gained +7.85 strokes on the field. You get the point - he’s rolling.
How about this chip-in on 17?
Who’s Chasing?
It might not even matter.
Of course, Rory could blow his six-shot lead and create a whole new psychological wound for himself, but that seems unlikely. Still, those strokes could come quickly if he doesn’t fix the driver accuracy. If he leaves the door open…
Other players like Patrick Reed (-6) and Sam Burns (-6) are still firmly in contention, and Burns will be paired with Rory for the Saturday round. But certain people (me) are hoping for a Reed vs. Rory Sunday pairing, considering the history there.
Leaderboard: -12 McIlroy, -6 Reed, Burns, -5 Lowry, Rose, Fleetwood
