RBC Canadian: Who Is Ben James?

Ben James (-10) leads the RBC Canadian Open by one stroke.

So, who the hell is this guy?

Turns out, he was one of the best college golfers in the world.

Some of the other young stars in that group are names you’ve probably heard. Auburn’s Jackson Koivun just announced yesterday that he’s skipping his senior year and turning pro. Luke Clanton and Gordon Sargent are both on TOUR through PGA TOUR University.

Ben James may not be quite as familiar. But at the University of Virginia, he became just the fifth golfer ever to earn All-American honors in all four years of his college career.

On Monday, during Golf’s Longest Day, he qualified for the U.S. Open. Then he hopped on a flight to Canada for his first-ever start on TOUR.

On Friday, he shot a 63 to take a one-stroke lead into moving day.
