Good afternoon. TGL had it’s debut on ESPN last night and honestly? It wasn’t bad. After the first fifteen minutes or so, I wanted to keep watching. There is definitely room for improvement, but overall I would give it a B- rating. The concept is cool and the potential is there, but it will live and die on the idea that 24 of the top golfers in the world can also be entertainers, which requires showing more personality & talking a little smack. I would love to see them create holes that demand really creative shots & it would be cool if they allowed fan designed holes in the future. Plus, what else is there to watch on a Tuesday night?

It’s a tough life these tour players lead, having to go from Maui to Oahu to play golf.

Last week, it was a signature event at The Sentry, this week, it’s a full field (144) event at The Sony Open.

One of the things I enjoy most about the opening drive in Hawaii is that it gives us the rare opportunity to watch primetime golf, unfortunately for the PGA Tour, they will be competing with both of the college football playoff games Thursday & Friday and then the NFL Wildcard round on Saturday & Sunday.

Can’t imagine that set up will make for good ratings.
