Preview & Picks: Rocket Classic

Plus: Reverse Flop Shot, Golf Trivia, and More.

Good Morning. According to Josh Carpenter from SBJ, The Travelers saw a 35% increase in viewership for Keegan Bradley’s win. It was the 2nd most watched Travelers Championship in the last 22 years.

All Signature Events on CBS this year are up about 20%.

It’s safe to say that the PGA Tour does not need to do a deal with LIV.

Preview & Picks: The Rocket Classic

Last week was the final Signature Event of the season and somehow we’ve watched three majors come and go already.

Time flies when you’re having fun.

After the U.S. Open and The Travelers Championship, a lot of top dogs on TOUR have decided to take the week off, so the field won’t be nearly as strong at The Rocket Classic. Remember when it was called The Rocket Mortgage Classic? Why Did they change that?

Anyway, there’s still some star power worth tuning in for this week.

Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay, Hideki Matsuyama, Keegan Bradley, and Rickie Fowler are all in the field.

There have been 6 WD’s this week - the most notable one is Tony Finau, who won in 2022.

This week also marks the 2nd time a former LIV player will be back in the field. James Piot, who was one of the first up-and-coming amateurs to join LIV, has been granted a sponsors exemption to compete, likely because he is a Detroit native. He’s only allowed back on TOUR because he hasn’t competed on LIV since 2023 after being relegated.

The Donald Ross designed course at DGC sets up really well for bombers and plays as one of the easier courses on the schedule.

Expect a whole lot of driver-wedge-birdie this week.

Last weeks card started strong, but finished with a whimper. We did hit Jason Day for a Top 20 though.

Winner: Ben Griffin +2200: Gotta ride the hot hand and no one in the field has been more consistent this summer than Ben Griffin.

Winner: Cameron Young +2500: The whole golf betting community is on Cameron Young this week. He’s finished in the Top 10 here twice, he’s a bomber, and his recent form is great.

Winner: Stephen Jaeger +7000: It was really hard to not throw Cam Davis in as a longshot considering he’s won here twice, but his recent form isn’t good enough to back him. We’re gonna go with Jaeger, who has three Top 10s this season and five Top 20’s.

Top Twenty: Luke Clanton +160: We are just going to keep throwing Luke Clanton in for Top 20’s, he just missed last week with a T34 finish.

Top Twenty: Jake Knapp +270: His game sets up well for DGC, where he just fell out of the Top 20 last year.

Top Twenty: Rico Hoey +250: His driving prowess has many people picking him as a longshot, but we like him more as a Top 20.
