Plus: Miracle At Oakmont, Amateur Makes History, and More Golf News.
Good afternoon. Is it safe to say TGL is more successful than LIV?
They just announced a new $70 million dollar franchise in Detroit, which should tell you they are pulling in solid viewership. Eyeballs first, money second. LIV? Not so much.
Brace for Solid Impact | Padraig Harrington
In order to deliver a strong force on the ball the body should “post up” or brace at impact. In the sixth Paddy’s Golf Tips video of a series about how you can teach yourself, I demonstrate how to help achieve that feeling in the swing with a few practice drills including using an impact bag, hitting the ground, trying to stop at impact and practice swings in heavy rough.

What are the odds that Scottie Scheffler wins three starts in a row?
I don’t have a clue, that’s for the MIT grads that work in Vegas to figure out with their calculators and computers.
I can, however, tell you that we won’t be picking against him this week.
Not in his home state and not with the way he’s been playing. Go ahead and lock him in for Oakmont, too, while you’re at it.
This weeks venue, Colonial Country Club, also known as “Hogan’s Alley” is more of a precision course than what we saw last week at Quail Hollow. The course demands accuracy, a huge reason Ben Hogan won here a record five times.
After the 2023 tournament, Colonial underwent a full, $20M restoration lead by Gil Hanse, which has been very well received. Their goal was to bring back some of the rugged elements of the course that were prevalent when Colonial hosted the 1941 U.S. Open.
The average winning score over the last 6 years has been about 12-under.

Shanks Picks

Ai Generated Photo of the Spieth Rollercoaster
Last week was an atrocity. We didn’t hit a single pick at the PGA Championship. Although, Bryson at least made it interesting for a while on Saturday. The hunt for our 6th outright winner of the season continues on…
Of note, the consensus pick from the “experts” this week across golf media seems to be Daniel Berger. He won here back in 2021 and his recent form is great, but we are gonna fade the consensus and bring a little contrarian energy to the weekend.
Winner: Scottie Scheffler +225. Scottie’s odds are short, but like we said earlier, how can you pick against the guy?
Winner: Jordan Spieth +2500. It’s difficult both mentally and emotionally to bet on Spieth. It’s a rollercoaster every single time, but we believe his next win is coming soon, so why not at a course he loves?
Winner: Harris English +3300. This is called a “recency bias” pick, but we don’t care. Sometimes you have to bet the hot hand and Harris English shot 65 on Sunday at Quail Hollow to finish T2. Good enough for us.
Top Twenty: Aaron Rai +110. Ole Two Gloves has five top twenty finishes this year, including a T19 last week at the PGA. Colonial sets up well for him.
Top Twenty: JT Poston +145. Another recency bias pick, but again, we don’t care! He finished T5 last week at Quail Hollow and finished in 12th last year at colonial.
Top Twenty Special: Brian Harman and Keith Mitchell to both finish top twenty including ties. +750 (BetMGM)
All odds are from BetMGM except for Top 20 Incl Ties, which are from Fanduel.

Thing We’d Buy: 90’s Jordan
Jordan Brand continues to blur the lines between heritage and sport with its latest off-course essential: a Jordan Fadeaway Golf Bag clad in the unmistakable “Ugly Sweater” print.
Famously worn by Michael Jordan in the lead-up to the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the vibrant, abstract pattern also appeared on the tongue of the Air Jordan 7 — a design that has since become synonymous with early ‘90s Jordan style.
