Plus: Girl With A Smooth Swing, Prime Deal, and More.

Good Afternoon. The PGA Tour is in Japan for the Baycurrent Classic this week. Now we’ve got Made in Japan by Buck Owens stuck in our heads. You won’t find another golf newsletter that mentions Buck, we can guarantee it.
The Drill That Fixes 90% Of Amateur Swings
Most golfers struggle with the same two faults: coming over the top (causing slices and fades) and hitting up or scooping at the ball (leading to fat and thin strikes).
In this video, he shares one simple drill that fixes both issues at the same time – helping you hit more from the inside, compress the ball properly, and strike your irons like a pro.

If you’re a year round golf-watcher, you’ll probably remember the Zozo Championship, which was the name of this event for the last 6 years.
It was at the ZoZo in 2019 that Tiger Woods got his last victory, notably tying Sam Sneads career record of 82 wins.
Will he ever get 83? It feels increasingly less likely, but that’s a concern for a different week, because he’s not in the field & no one has any idea when he will play in another real golf tournament.
There are, however, some big names in this limited field (78) event; Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Hideki Matsuyama, Chris Gotterup, Aldrich Potgieter, Brian Campbell, Sungjae Im, Adam Scott, Michael Kim, Billy Horschel, Sahith Theegala and defending champion Nico Echavarria.
Apparently, there’s a Typhoon off the coast of Japan which is going to lead to some choppy weather, which likely means soft greens.
One more thing of note - because it’s in Japan, that means the golf comes on TV at 9PM ET tonight on Golf Channel. Same time as Phillies vs. Dodgers Game 3.

Shanks Picks

Winner: Hideki Matsuyama He’s won this event in the past, it’s his home country, and we’re secretly hoping all the good juju goes to Hideki and away from that Shohei Ohtani guy.
Winner: Chris Gotterup +2200 All the guy has done is get on planes, fly overseas, and win. Can he do it again?
Winner: Eric Cole +7500 Okay, this one is a little long in the teeth, but he finished T10 last week and the Fedex Fall tends to produce some longshot winners.
