Also, golf trivia is toward the bottom of the email today!

Preview & Picks: PGA Championship

Man, people really don’t like Quail Hollow…

“I guess I would say Quail Hollow is like a Kardashian…It’s very modern, beautiful & well-kept. But it lacks a soul or character.”

Hunter Mahan cooked there, no doubt about it. That line is on par with anything Lil Wayne wrote in The Carter III. He just bodied the Kardashians and Quail Hollow in one fell swoop.

Of course, there were also more subtle comments made by people like Justin Thomas, who wasn’t even trying to diss the course as much as he was trying to compliment Rory McIlroy.

He ended up doing both when he said “That's a tremendous advantage or threat at any golf course, but I feel like a place like this, where it doesn't necessarily require a lot of thought or strategy off the tee, it's generally pulling out driver and just I need to hit this as far and straight as possible, and he's really, really good at that.”

These comments have opened up the floodgates on social media, with people ripping the course set up from all angles, but it also reveals the key to betting this week:

Pick the bombers.

And for that reason, our pick to win this week will be Michael Block, 2023 PGA Championship hero.

Happy Bryson Dechambeau GIF by LIV Golf

The hunt for our sixth outright winner of the season continues…and it may be our most boring card of the year.

Winner: Rory McIlroy +500. Quail Hollow is basically “the house that Rory built” at this point. He’s won here 4x, he’s on fire this season, and he’s free from the shackles of his major championship drought.

Winner: Bryson DeChambeau +800. It’s a bombers course, and Bryson is the ultimate bomber, but more than that, we deserve another great sports trilogy. Ali vs. Frazier, Bird vs. Magic, McIlroy vs. Bryson. It’s only right if they are paired again on Sunday.

Winner: Justin Thomas +1800. Went back and forth between JT and Xander here. The number on X man is better at +2000, but JT has been in better recent form. He gets the nod.

Top Twenty: Tyrrell Hatton +135. He’s one of the only guys who has consistently gained strokes since leaving for LIV.

Top Twenty: Jason Day +200 Mr. Malbon himself has had 3 Top 10’s in 6 starts since his 2017 PGA Championship win. Top Twenty should be easy work for him this week, but it’s golf so…

Top Twenty: Min Woo Lee +210. Min Woo has won already this year, he’s a bomber, and he’s a fan favorite.

All odds for winners are from BetMGM and all odds for Top Twenty (including ties) are from Fanduel.

Thing We’d Buy: Finance

This sweater felt especially relevant this week, as the NLU guys have caused quite a stir with the good folks of Charlotte, after they referred to them as “a bunch of mid-level junior bankers”.

Anyway, if you’re a finance guy who golfs… this one is for you.
