Quick Recaps: Fedex St. Jude Championship

Justin Rose represents so many of the things that are great about pro golf—hard work, playing with heart and relentless dedication, and being gracious in victory or defeat.

He’s 45 years old, but he’s still grinding his tail off. He’s been that way his entire career.

He began his professional golf journey by missing 21 consecutive cuts, but stayed with it until he finally broke through.

He’d been a professional for over a decade before winning the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion.

If you don’t remember, a teary-eyed Rose held the trophy and looked up toward the sky. He later said he felt like his father, who had died from leukemia in 2002, was watching over him. Here’s what he said back then:

“It wasn't lost on me that today was Father's Day," said Rose of his gesture when he was presented with the trophy on the 18th green.

"A lot of us come from great men, and we have a responsibility to our children to show what a great man can be.

For it to all just work out for me, on such an emotional day, I couldn't help but look up to the heavens and think that my old dad Ken had something to do with it."

Fast forward to yesterday—over 12 years since that U.S. Open victory, now with 22 professional wins under his belt and a heartbreaking loss to Rory McIlroy at The Masters—he rallied yet again.

Rose birdied four of the last five holes to force a playoff with J.J. Spaun. Then he birdied the second and third playoff holes to win it.

As many have pointed out, it’s highly likely that Justin Rose could have taken the LIV money alongside other aging Euros, but instead he’s opted to do what he’s always done—grind his way to victory and earn every part of a great career.

He’s going to be a problem at the Ryder Cup this year.
