Quick Recap: The U.S. Open

That was a wild final round.
JJ Spaun could’ve easily folded after a nightmare start on Sunday at Oakmont.
Many golfers in the field this weekend certainly did.
He bogeyed five of the first six holes, including having a great shot ricochet off the flagstick and zip 37yds backwards.
Yet, despite the brutal breaks, he persevered.
Just like he’s been doing his whole career.
We can’t sum it up any better than Monday Q did below. Just absolutely incredible stuff. (click to expand).
When you see him hoist the giant check, remember the journey there:
2013: Made just $11,775 on Canadian Tour
2014: Made one cut and made $825 in Canada
2015: Won Canada Order of Merit
2016: Finished 3rd on KFT points, earned his PGA tour card
2017: 97th in FedEx Points

People Are Debating Oakmont Being Too “Tricked Out”
All weekend long, Golf Twitter™️ was raging with debates about the set up at Oakmont. Some say it’s too “tricked out” and basically unplayable. Others blame the modern balls and equipment, etc.
"It is utterly foolish that the modern game is in a place where you need 5.5-inch rough, greens that stimp in the 15s, and effective playing corridors that are narrower than the dimensions of modern shot patterns to produce a winning score near par. More simply put, we’re playing

We agree with the others, who say Oakmont is perfect the way it is.
It’s always had long rough and the fastest greens.
It’s a brute and it was designed to be that way.
U.S. Opens are supposed to be the toughest test in golf.
This isn’t the PGA Championship.
It’s one week per year and really one week every nine years.
We hope Oakmont doesn’t change a damned thing.
