Quick Recap: Valspar Championship

Well, that was a wild finish.

Unless you were riding with us on Justin Thomas, in which case… that one hurt.

JT looked like he was going to coast to a win. He made seven birdies, including a beauty on 15, and had everything rolling—until the Snake Pit bit back. Two errant drives on 16 and 18 led to bogeys, and just like that, the tournament slipped away.

That closing stretch at Copperhead has crushed plenty of hopes over the years. JT won’t be the last.

You know who was surprised by how things ended? Viktor Hovland.

Coming into the week, Hovland had missed three straight cuts and openly said he had no confidence in his game. But when it mattered most, he delivered—rolling in clutch birdies on 16 and 17, giving himself enough cushion to bogey 18 and still win by one.

Ever the tinkerer, Hovland didn’t sugarcoat things post-round:
“It’s like some of the shots that I’m hitting, it’s going to make it really difficult for me to be in contention at Augusta if I don’t rectify that problem.”

Still, hard to argue with the result. A win’s a win, and Hovland’s trending in the right direction at just the right time.
