Quick Update: Cognizant Classic
Jake Knapp Joins the 59 Club, But the Field is Closing In
The biggest storyline from round one? Jake Knapp becoming just the 15th player in PGA Tour history to break 60, firing a 59 to kick off the Florida Swing.
He followed it up with a second-round 70, cooling off just enough to let the field creep back in. Knapp still leads by one, but with 24 players within five shots, things are tightening up. That chase pack includes Brian Harman, Shane Lowry, Rickie Fowler, and Zach Johnson.
Meanwhile, Jordan Spieth sits six shots back, and his situation just got more interesting. Reports this week confirmed that neither he nor Rickie Fowler received tournament exemptions for the Arnold Palmer Invitational. That means one of them needs a win this week to get in—or at least a high finish to crack the Aon Next Five list.
On the bright side for young talent, Luke Clanton made the cut, officially earning his PGA Tour card. The Florida State sophomore will be eligible for Tour membership once he wraps up his college season this spring.
