Scottie was still fairly reserved in his commentary here, but one can’t shake the feeling that he feels that the rule was selectively applied.

The new Champion Golfer of the Year discusses the unique tendencies of his swing, such as his extremely pointed left toe, the way he bends at the side on the downswing and his strong grip.

Well, that Open Championship had a little bit of everything, huh?

Rules snafu’s, drama, disparaging commentary, and most importantly - great golf.

Overall, it was quite an enjoyable watch for the 154th iteration of The Open.

First, let us start with Ryan Fox.

His performance over the weekend was stellar, in fact, his final two rounds (62-68) matched the lowest 36 hole score in Open history.

The 62 that got him into contention on Saturday was a lot of fun to watch, but the round that he played on Sunday was nothing short of gutsy, and championship-worthy.

Yes, his putter was awesome. Yes, his iron play was crisp, but it was how he accepted the bad breaks and kept grinding that stood out most.

He made bogey’s on the 9th and 11th holes, and caught a terrible bunker lie on the 15th, where he had to chip backwards out of the bunker, and then got up & down from there to save bogey.

He immediately bounced back with a birdie on the 16th. He just missed another birdie try on the 17th for the lead.

Heading into the 18th, which had only yielded 5 birdies all day, he told his caddie he’d be playing for keeps.

He mashed his drive to the right center of the fairway, leaving himself a 176yd approach, which he hit to 11 feet.

He put himself into the dream scenario of every little boy who’s ever picked up a club, bat, or ball.

“A putt to win the Open”

“A catch to win the superbowl”

“Bottom of the 9th, bases loaded, 2 strikes, 2 outs..”

We’ve all told ourselves those stories, and Ryan Fox did too.

And it’s those moments, where we get to see a man realize the dreams of boyhood, which make sport so great.

A lot of names popped up on the leaderboard only to hit a snag later: Scottie Scheffler, Sam Burns, Si Woo Kim, Tommy Fleetwood among them. They all played great golf, and contributed the drama of the day and a special tournament.

Of them, Cameron Young played the best.

Young began the day T20, and stormed up the leaderboard, briefly reaching the magic ten-under number, before a tough bogey at the last sent him to -9, but he was the clubhouse leader, and had to sit and watch for over two hours before Ryan Fox ended it.

It’s been a great season for Cam Young, and he has the talent required to win majors, but that doesn’t make the loss any less heartbreaking.
