Good Afternoon. The Masters is just a couple weeks away, and this stat stood out:

11 of the last 13 winners gained at least +1.7 strokes tee-to-green in the three months leading up to Augusta.

According to Kyle Porter from Normal Sport, there are currently 11 players meeting that mark this year - when it’s usually more like 5 to 7.

Quick Recap: Valspar Championship

It was just a week ago that Matt Fitzpatrick lost The Players on the final hole.

He got heckled all day at Sawgrass, handled it well, tipped his cap to Cam Young, and moved on to Innisbrook.

At the time, the Caddyshanks Braintrust made a simple call: we’re not betting Fitzpatrick this week. We hate backing guys coming off heartbreak. There’s usually a bit of an emotional hangover.

Fitzpatrick basically said the same thing in his presser:

“I felt like last week I played so well, right until the end,” Fitzpatrick said. “To lose the way I did, it’s always disappointing, always feels like it takes a little out of you when you spend four days of your life battling to try and get that top spot, and to lose it right at the death is always difficult to take. So, this week was important to get back on the horse and try and push myself to continue playing well.”

As a fan, you watch someone experience heartbreak and think, “that guy deserves one down the line.”

The problem is, in golf, “down the line” can take a while. That’s part of what makes it so brutal. It’s rare when the turnaround happens immediately.

But this time, it did.

At Sawgrass, he closed with a bogey and lost.
At Innisbrook, he didn’t make a single bogey all weekend.

And on the 72nd hole, he flipped the script - rolling in a birdie to beat David Lipsky by one.

Just like last week, Fitzpatrick wasn’t in the final pairing to start the day.

That honor belonged to Brandt Snedecker and Sungjae Im, who combined to shoot eight-over on the day, which opened the door for Fitz to get a little payback for last week.

Final Leaderboard: -11 M Fitzpartick -10 D Lipsky -9 J Smith -8 X Schauffele, SJ Im, M Penge -7 SH Kim, SJaeger, W Grillo, P Cantlay.
