⛳️ Domination in the Desert

Plus: Trump & Tiger Golf, Paige Spiranac Shapes Shots, & More.

Good afternoon. Domination was the theme of the weekend. Whether it was the Eagles dog-walking the Chiefs, or Thomas Detry leaving no doubt in the desert.

John Daly Hates Golf Course Dress Codes

The first comment sums it up: He's the average weekend golfer who hit it farther than everybody and won Majors. That's why everyone loves him. He's a normal guy who was just really, really good.

Quick Recap: WM Open

Thomas Detry (-24) was a man on a mission at TPC Scottsdale this week. He grabbed the lead and never let go. There was plenty of chatter on X over the weekend about how he had never held a lead before, but you wouldn’t have known it by watching him.

He birdied his final four holes and won by a commanding seven strokes.

The closest challengers were Daniel Berger (-17) and Michael Kim (-17). Berger was one of our top-20 picks for the week at +290, but unfortunately, he was our only hit.

Heading into Sunday, there was a lot of optimism around Jordan Spieth. He played well, but Detry kept his foot on the gas, and no one really made him sweat. That said, it feels like it’s been a while since we’ve seen Spieth in contention at a big tournament. He looked like a different player compared to the end of last year—his game was sharper, and his body language was noticeably better.

Maybe wrist surgery helped?

This week, we get Tiger Woods in the field at an iconic venue—Torrey Pines, where he’s won eight times. It’ll be strange to see The Genesis Invitational played somewhere other than Riviera, but due to the wildfires, they’ve moved it to Torrey Pines.

Last year, Tiger withdrew, so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of form he’s in. I know some people don’t care anymore, but he’s still the biggest needle mover on Tour. If Phil Mickelson can win a major at 50, why can’t Tiger?
