Quick Update: U.S. Open

This Oakmont place… pretty tough, eh?
After two rounds, there are just three players under par.
Big names like Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, Ludvig Aberg, Justin Rose, Joaquin Niemann, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, and Shane Lowry all missed the cut.
At one point, Thriston Lawrence had a 3 stroke lead and was 6-under. He finished at 1-over.
Yet, despite all of the carnage, Sam Burns shot 5-under in the 2nd round.
He did so on the back of his putter, which has been red hot all season, except for last week when he was our pick to win and missed a 3.5 footer to close it out, but that’s golf.
His eleven birdies in two rounds at Oakmont is the exact same amount Dustin Johnson made when he won in 2016.
Rain should soften the course some over the weekend, but something tells us it’s not gonna make it much easier, do you think anyone will finish under par?
What about everybody else?
JJ Spaun followed up his bogey-free first round with a two-over second round. He’s in solo 2nd place at 2-under.
Viktor Hovland is in solo-third place at 1-under, he’s had the best attitude of maybe any player in the field as well, describing Oakmont as “a fun test” after his round.
Veteran Adam Scott and former mortgage broker Ben Griffin are T4 at even par.
Notable Contenders:
1. Sam Burns: -3
2. J.J. Spaun: -2
3. Viktor Hovland: -1
T4. Adam Scott: E
T4. Ben Griffin: E
T6. Victor Perez: +1

T8. Russell Henley +2

T8. Thomas Detry: +2
T12. Keegan Bradley +3

In Case You Missed It…
Philip Barbaree makes this at the last to make the cut in the rain at the U.S. Open - so, so, so cool ... this is why paying close attention to cuts at every event matters. For some, these putts are as important as the ones to win tournaments.
