Preview & Picks: Farmers Insurance Open

It always feels good to start the season with winning picks - and technically, we gave you three last week: Scottie Scheffler, Patriots ML, and Seahawks ML.
For the moment, we can claim we’re the only newsletter that pays you to read it.
Now we’re on to historic Torrey Pines for the Farmers Insurance Open.
This week - unlike last week - will not be a birdie-fest. The first two rounds are split between the North and South Courses, with the final two rounds (post-cut) played exclusively on the South Course, one of the toughest tests on TOUR.
And the scoring history reflects that:
In the last 15 years, only one player has won at 20-under or better (Justin Rose at -21 in 2019)
Before that, you have to go all the way back to Tiger Woods at -22 in 1999, when this event was still called the Buick Invitational
Since 2010, the average winning score is right around -13
The field at Torrey is strong, featuring 10 of the Top 20 players in the OWGR. Notably, this also marks Brooks Koepka’s return to the PGA TOUR - his first non-major TOUR start since 2022.
Xander Schauffele, Jason Day, Chris Gotterup, Keegan Bradley, JJ Spaun, Ludvig Aberg, and Cameron Young are among the notable names in the field.

Keith Stewart’s Picks
Cameron Young (+2500 Caesars)
One of the best drivers on the planet, Cameron Young, significantly improved his putting last season. Since the Masters, Cameron has out-putted the field in 16 of 18 starts. That doesn’t even count the masterful match-play effort he made at the Ryder Cup. Young’s ready for a career year, and Torrey Pines is a great place to start. A perfect fit for Cam’s ball striking, the putter now makes him a favorite to win!
Sam Stevens (+5000 FanDuel)
Sam Stevens is one of the best drivers of the golf ball on the PGA TOUR. Stevens has gained off the tee against the field in his last 14 measured events. When the driver helps you separate, Sam shows up. Stevens finished runner-up here one year ago and at TPC Twin Cities and TPC San Antonio in his career. Two more very difficult driving courses. Sixth at The American Express, Steven’s iron game is also peaking in time for a return trip to Torrey Pines.
Caddyshanks Picks
Chris Gotterup (+2700 Fanduel)
If you had a short list of potential breakout candidates in 2026, Cam Young and Chris Gotterup would be at the top of it. We’re playing them both this weekend.
Hideki Matsuyama (+3000 Draft Kings)
Hideki’s game fits really well at Torrey and his recent form is strong. He won the Hero back in December, he finished T18 at the Sony a few weeks ago, and we like him to make a run at it this week.
Brooks Koepka Top 20 (+280 Fanduel)
C’mon, we gotta put some action on Brooks!
