Wyndham Championship: The Kids Are Alright

For the third week in a row, an American under the age of 25 has won a golf tournament.

Has that ever happened before?

It turns out that yes, in fact, it has, but only once.

Way back in 2017, Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele, Bryson Dechambeau, and Grayson Murray actually won 4 weeks in a row (Murray won The Barbasol, which was an opposite field event to The Open).

That group has gone on to collect 7 majors so far.

Maybe we should take out some futures Jackson Koivun, Michael Thorbjornsen, and Michael Brennan awhile.

The Wyndham Championship

There must be something in the water at PGA TOUR U, because these kids are making birdies in bunches out there.

Yesterday, Michael Brennan made five birdies in a row on Nos. 4-8.

That stretch separated him from Beau Hossler, who was the next closest man, and combined with the 63 he shot on Saturday, won him the tournament.

Brennan went on to birdie the 72nd hole and win by three strokes, and in the process vaulted himself inside the Fedex Cup Top 50.

He was the only player to get in from outside the bubble. Jackson Koivun, who started the week at No. 70, remained there.

Brooks Koepka, Jason Day, and Keegan Bradley saw their seasons come to an end.

What’s Next?

The Fedex Cup Playoffs kick off this week with the Fedex St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind.

Fedex St. Jude Odds:

  • Scheffler +450

  • McIlroy +1200

  • Schauffele +1800

  • Matsuyama +2800

  • Gotterup +3000

  • Cantlay +3000
