The Field at a Glance & How To Watch

As has been the case for almost every tournament during the Fedex Fall, this is not the strongest field. There are, however, a few headliners; Ludvig Aberg, Cameron Young, Sahith Theegala, Lucas Glover, and of course… BLOCKIE.

Thursday, November 2: 4:30-7:30PM ET (Golf Channel)
Friday, November 3: 4:30-7:30PM ET (Golf Channel)

The Course

For 17 years, this event was held at El Camaleon Golf Club at Mayakoba, but after they started working with LIV, the PGAT decided to move it to El Cardonal.

So, that’s how we ended up having the first ever tour-stop at a Tiger Woods designed course.

El Cardonal plays at 7400+ yards, which is lengthy, but it’s important to remember that this is a resort course with wide fairways and large greens.

With perfect weather on the forecast, expect a birdie fest.

Shanks Picks

Outright Winner: Lucas Glover +3000

  • Look, winning three times on tour in one year is really, really difficult to do, but if that friggin’ putter is working? He will be in contention come Sunday.

Top Five: Ludvig Aberg +230

  • Frankly, he’s the most talented player in the field pound for pound. We were expecting a top-5 finish to be +180 for him. Lock it in.

Top Ten: Beau Hossler +280

  • Min Woo Lee won last week on the DP World Tour and he’s already adjusted to the time zone change. Recent form pick here.

Top Twenty: Justin Suh +200

  • Suh hasn’t fully broken through yet, but he’s coming off a nice performance at the Zozo Championship, against a stronger field and on a more difficult course.

Longshot: Michael Block +100000

  • Miracles do happen.

Tourney Special: Ludvig Aberg, Cameron Young, Sahith Theegala to all finish in the Top 10 including ties. +1300 on Fanduel.

Hope They Raked

When confronted, the couple said they were dressed up as Tiger Woods and a Perkins waitress for Halloween. Story checks out.

Just kidding, they got banned from St. Andrews for life.

TGL: Format Revealed

Just a few short months before the debut of TGL on January 9th, we’ve finally got some more details on, you know, what they are actually doing.

TGL will follow a format called “Modern Day Match Play”.

  • Each team is made up of three golfers.

  • There will be 15 team matches during the season.

  • Each match will consist of two sessions.

  • The first session is “Triples,” a three vs. three, team alternate-shot format.

  • During the second session, only six holes are played. Head-to-head format. Each player will have two designated holes in the second session.

  • If there’s a tie, players will participate in a shootout-style tiebreaker. A closest-to-the-pin contest will determine the winner. If a team hits two consecutive shots closer than their opponents, it wins the match.

  • Season-long points will be allotted as follows: Two points for a regulation win, two points for an overtime win, one point for a loss in overtime, and no points for a regulation loss.

  • At the end of the 15 regular season matches, the top four teams in the standings will advance to the playoffs. The playoffs will be single-elimination, featuring a “best-of-three” structure.

TGL matches will be played in a stadium setting, with players hitting off of real grass and sand, with a 64-foot simulator. It actually looks pretty crazy. There’s also a shortgame area called “The Green Zone” that was built by Full Swing simulators - apparently it moves around and stuff.

Golf Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke

As mentioned above, Full Swing Simulators is behind the tech powering TGL, so it got us thinking… what’s their lineup looking like these days?

Their full simulators are pricey - starting at like $44,000 for their Sport Model.

You can, however, get just the launch monitor for $4,999.

Well, we title this section what we title it for a reason.

Trivia Answer: 4.26 shots via Lou Stagner / Accross.

That’s all folks! See you Saturday Morning.
