Golf Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke
Update: Wells Fargo
If you want an example of why the "Green Mile" at Quail Hollow is so fun to watch, look no further than Xander Schauffle and Tommy Fleetwood. Back to back birdies on 14 & 15 had X Man sitting in the lead by two strokes as he walked up to the 16th tee box.
Two bogeys in that final three hole stretch paired with birdies on 17 & 18 for Fleetwood allowed Fleetwood to sit alone at the top of the leaderboard at the end of round one.
The Green Mile reshuffles leaderboards.
They are both off this morning as I write this, and are now tied for the lead.
Birthday Boy
Rory McIlroy shot 34-34 on his 34th b-day. He sat three behind the lead after round one.
Like we mentioned earlier in the week, Rory is the only 3x winner of this event. While we haven't seen him play since The Masters, he seems to be getting his head out of his a** and theres a good chance he's in contention come Sunday.
What about everyone else?
Shout out to our long shot bet Sahith Theegala, who shot -4 in his opening round to sit T7.
We believe in you pal. Please win us money.
Justin Thomas is also sitting in the thick of it at -4 and Quail Hollow is a place he historically plays well, he did win his first ever major there, after-all.
Patrick Cantlay, with Tigers old caddie Joe Lacava on the bag, also shot -4.
With all of these big names at the top of the leaderboard, we should be in for a great weekend of golf.
Storyline to Bet:
How about Kevin Streelman? +8000
The guy is in his 16th year on tour, came into the weekend 136th in Fedex points, and with six birdies on the day, including a sick hole-out on the 16th, he sits at the top of the leaderboard.
He's been working on cleaning up his game with coaches, but I loved this quote from him, which I am sure readers can relate to:
“I probably have a tendency to look too much at YouTube videos or Instagram, all these perfect swing posts and stuff. But I love it, too. I love the search, as I think a lot of us golfers do. But I think it’s important to know your fundamentals, your tendencies, write them down. As I tell kids as I’m talking to them, like know what makes you you and what makes you great great, and when you’re not so great, what do you need to go back to,” he said. “So that’s kind of the process I’ve been into is just going back to some things that have worked really well for me in the past.”
Shanks Picks Update:
Cam Young, Viktor Hovland, and Rickie Folwer, and Joel Dahmen, who many golf experts expected to contend,(well maybe not Rickie and Joel so much) didn't get off to a hot start and are sitting near the projected cut-line.
JT is sitting pretty as our Top 10 pick.
Sahith Theegala and Rory are in contention.
Golf Gambling is hard.
New Home for PGA of America
Frisco, Texas. Ever heard of it? It’s just north of Dallas and the only reason I know about it is because I had to go there for a couple of work trips. Well, it’s the new home of the PGA of America and the Omni PGA Frisco Resort, which is almost officially complete with the now open to the public, Fields Ranch West course (it’s sister course, Fields Ranch East Course, opens on May 30th to the public). And lemme tell ya, it looks sick my guy.
To give you a taste of this new Texas golf mecca, there’s a 500-room hotel, 10 four-bedroom ranch houses, a spa, two ballrooms, 19 meeting rooms, nine outdoor event venues, a pavilion, 13 restaurants and bars, and retail shops. Theres two 18-hole courses (the Fields Ranch courses, beautiful might I add), a 10-hole lighted short course named “The Swing” and a lighted 2-acre putting course named “The Dance Floor.” It also includes the data-driven PGA Coaching Center and the Jerry J. Ransom Northern Texas PGA Golf House.
You wanna see how legit this place looks? Watch this video. Seriously, watch it. Beautiful drone work.

Golf Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke
Let’s start off by saying that I consider myself a very fortunate person that at one time in my life, I was able to purchase these terrific and ultra popular irons, the TaylorMade P790. Now let me say that I am so pissed I didn’t just wait a couple months.
TaylorMade, known as being one of the most prominent golf brands in the world, recently released these really dope Phantom Black Prism Irons on the MyTaylorMade+ app for $1499.99. The colors include red/black, green/black, blue/black, and black/black and currently I’m really/annoyed that I can’t trade my plain/silver/standard P790s in and pay the difference.
Only 50 sets will be made for this drop: Black (20), Red (10), Blue (10) and Green (10). These MyTaylorMade+ exclusives will be released in slow-drip fashion. One…color…at…a…time.
That's all folks! Have a great time with the boys this weekend, my dudes, my guys.
