Update: The Valspar Championship
Ryan Brehm, who had a hole in one on the 17th hole, sits atop the leaderboard. He's joined there by Stephan Jaeger and Adam Schenk, all three posting a 66. Not bad!
Now is a good time to note that the 16th, 17th, and 18th holes at Copperhead are known as: The Snake Pit. It's the toughest stretch on the course, it's narrow, and it demands accurate shots. You can't over power the snake pit.
Notes & Bets
Uh oh, Jordy learned how to putt! - Jordan Spieth is T4 at -4. Notably, his putter seems to have finally woken up.
"Entering the week, Jordan Spieth ranked 114th in SG: Putting. His round Thursday may jump start the journey in improving that stat.
Spieth made 147 feet of putts on Day 1, including a 58-footer on the par-3 15th and a 31-foot effort at No. 6." +600 to win via Bet MGM.
Sam Burns and Justin Thomas - Two of the favorites coming into the weekend, they are hanging around at -2, but they are in the afternoon group today which should be dealing with some wind. (+1200 & +900)
Tommy Fleetwood- How absurd is it the someone as good as Tommy Fleetwood has yet to get a PGA Tour win? Ryder Cup hero, 7 time DP World Tour winner, maybe this is his weekend? You could've locked him in +2200 pre-tourney, if you listened to us. You can still take him +1100 right now.
Akshay Bhatia, our pick for a Top 40 finish, currently sits at -1 T23. You can take him outright for +10000 if you're feelin froggy.
LIV Golf – Louder From The Dirty T
Tucson, AZ – The international PGA golf rebels tournament a.k.a LIV, heads to the US of A for its first stateside tournament this season at The Gallery Golf Club in Marana. The Gallery North Course is ranked #1 in Southern Arizona by Golf Digest and is acknowledged as one of Golfweek's Top 100 Modern Courses so you know this course means business… and cacti.
For those looking to see Charles Howell win 2 straight, we’re sorry to share that bettors do not share that sentiment! Howell currently sits 22/1 odds of winning in Arizona. A much safer pick at 14/1 odds of an individual win is Paul Casey who played here professionally in 2007 and 2008 for the WGC Match Play, and also attended Arizona State so this is definitely familiar territory.
Remember that LIV also has TEAMS! Right? You can bet on those too! To nobody’s surprise, Dustin Johnson’s “4 Aces” sits atop the bet board with 7/2 odds to win the team portion of the tournament. I’m inclined to agree (even though I’m rooting for “Smash” at 12/1). As of right now, weather forecasts for Tucson are basically perfect at highs between high 60s and low 70s with partially cloudy skies and wind maybe playing a small factor on the weekend.
Flashback Friday
We've never done this section before, but it felt like a cool opportunity to go through some golf history. So, here's our suggestion: Go on Youtube and watch the 1986 Masters Final Round Broadcast.
See, you have to understand that this Jack wasn't the Jack people were used to. He was getting older, he hadn't won on tour in two years, and he hadn't won a major in six.
With ten holes left, he was six shots behind the leader, Seve Ballesteros.
Then, Jack Nicklaus plays maybe the best back 9 in golf history, shooting a 30. With his son Jackie on the bag. It's a masterpiece.
Also, one of the greatest shots of all time.
Jackie: "Be right"
Jack: "It is".
The wink says it all.

Golf Fact to Make You Seem Smart
Thanks to our friends at holeinoneinsurnance.com, we know that the chances one of us amateurs gets a hole-in-one is roughly 12,500:1.
Unfortunately, I can't find that line on FanDuel but I've opened up a support ticket and will let you all know once I hear back.
Gimme $10 on that, every single time I step on the tee at a par-3. Every single time.
An extra $40 a round to potentially win $125k?! That gives us 3,125 attempts or about 781 rounds of golf to hit an ace and come out profitable... Best odds in all of sports if you ask me. Never been so confident.

That's all folks! See you Monday for a recap of the weekend.
