After two rounds, the leaderboard at the John Deere Classic was tight.
We thought we might be in for a close finish, but then Davis Thompson took complete control in rounds 3 & 4.
He grabbed his first PGA Tour victory with a record-breaking 28-under-par.
He’s also the 24th player to earn his first victory at the John Deere — a record for any PGA Tour venue.
The win earned the 25-year-old a spot in The Open Championship in two weeks and a prize of $1.44 million.
What about everybody else?
There was also an Open Championship spot up for grabs for the 2nd place finisher.
CT Pan, Luke Clanton, and Michael Thorbjornsen happened to tie for 2nd.
Unfortunately for Clanton and Thorbjornsen, the tiebreaker is World Ranking Points, so Pan gets the spot.
For the last 3 years, each winner @JDCLASSIC has stayed in the same rental home in Silvis, Illinois.
