Quick Update: The Scottish Open
Moving day has begun, and the weather is significantly better for the early part of the 3rd round.
Early wave guys like Justin Thomas (-1) have started to move up the leaderboard. Sungjae Im played his 3rd round in 5-under this morning, and Padraig Harrington started his day with back-to-back birdies. It’s like a different course so far today.
That being said, Irishman Shane Lowry is still in the lead at 7-under. He’s played so well in pursuit of his second Claret Jug that it would be hard to bet against him at this point, but we did anyway.
Caddyshanks is all in on Justin Rose this weekend. And how about Rosie?
Despite being a major champion (US Open ‘13) and Ryder Cupper, Rose still had to show up and earn his way into The Open via a qualifier. Now, 26 years after his debut at The Open (see video below), he has a chance to win it at age 44. Awesome stuff.
He and Daniel Brown both have the opportunity to be the first Englishman to win The Open since Nick Faldo in 1992. Daniel Brown is another one worth pulling for today – he’s a farmer’s son from Northallerton in North Yorkshire, and he’s got his younger brother Ben on the bag.
How many times do you think they played this scenario out as little kids, out on the course, pretending they had a putt to win The Open Championship?
What about everyone else?
Scottie Scheffler is lurking and that’s never a good thing for the rest of the leaderboard. Despite all of the heartwarming storylines above, don’t be surprised when it's Scottie hoisting the Claret Jug on Sunday.
He’s tied with Billy Horschel and Dean Burmester at 2-under.
Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson both made the cut and will be paired together today. It wouldn’t be shocking to see one of them sneak into contention.
Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, Ludvig Aberg, Tommy Fleetwood, Tony Finau, Tom Kim, and Viktor Hovland all missed the cut.

While watching the first round, I noticed Scottie Scheffler made a bogey on the first hole. I know that’s something he doesn’t do often – a bounce-back birdie could be in play.
So, I took a look at Rithmm’s AI Caddie feature for Scottie Scheffler to see when they projected he was most likely to make a birdie. It turns out, it was the 3rd hole.
You can see that in the image on the left, where the orange bar is higher than the gray bar. That’s where AI sees an advantage for the golfer relative to the field. So, I went over to Fanduel and bet Scheffler to birdie - and he did!
Easy money.
