Good Afternoon. Welcome to Caddyshanks a golf newsletter for people who like FUN.

Quick Update: Scottish Open 1.5 Rounds In

Well, that wasn’t the leaderboard we expected after the first round.

And if you say you bet Byeong Hun An to be the first round leader, we want to see your betslip.

His 9-under first round was good enough for a two shot lead over Davis Riley, with Rory McIlroy (-6) among the chasers.

What about round 2?

We are halfway through the second round as we write this morning... there was no way this dad of a 10mo old was getting up at 3am to watch.

Tyrell Hatton: His first round (-1) put him in the middle of the pack. He went ahead and completed his second round in a scorching 8-under. He’s now tied with An for the lead at -9.

Scottie Scheffler: Scottie followed up his 2-under first round with a 5-under while most Americans were sleeping. He is -7 after two round.

Padraig Harrington: The wily veteran is showing why he deserves Ryder Cup consideration for the Euro team. He is -7 after two rounds.

Rory McIlroy: Tied for the lead at -9 through six holes in the second round.

Tom Kim: Also tied for the lead at -9. Could this weekend be the breakthrough we’ve been waiting for?

💰 Shanks Picks 💰

Gross, just gross.

Here’s how our picks from Wednesday are doing + a weekend bet:

Outright Winner: Tommy Fleetwood was even after the first round, so we need him to go VERY low today. He is currently -2 through 6 holes of the second round.

Top Five: Tyrell Hatton +350 looking great and T1.

Top Ten: Aaron Rai looking not so great. Might miss the cut.

Top Twenty: Ludvig Aberg might not be ready for the pressure Shanks has been putting on him this early in his career. He is E and battling for the cutline.

Long Shots: Adam Scott finished his second round earlier, will miss the cut.

Tourney Special: Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffle, and Patrick Cantlay to finish inside to top ten (including ties). WHAT IS PATRICK CANTLAY DOING OUT THERE?

Wanna know why golf gambling isn’t for the faint of heart? Because this stuff below only happens in golf. Normal sport.

Rickie Fowler Buys Childhood Driving Range

Another great story about Rickie Fowler doing BDR things. You know, like buying the driving range he grew up hitting balls on as a kid.

“My dad used to deliver the sand for maintenance and gravel for the parking lot in exchange for me to hit balls.”

Golf Shots Heard Round The World

Poaching: PGAT and PIF have dropped the poaching clause from their agreement. Will more players defect?

The Money Club

… is the putter. It’s not your driver, it’s not your irons, wedges, hybrids, etc. it’s your putter. Remember that tweet up above?

This one:

Now it’s not known what putter he changed to, but obviously the type of putter you use matters, so I want to point out some stats about putters on the tour.

The most common brand of putter on the tour is Odyssey. 48 players currently use em. The 2nd most used putter is Titleist, at 39 players. Ping takes 3rd place at 22 players. And the 4th most common putter is by TaylorMade.

65% of the top 100 PGA Tour golfers use mallet putters with the other 35% choosing blade putters.

If you want to see the putters WINNERS are actually using, check out this article here! This includes Odyssey White Hot OG 2-Ball, Scotty Cameron Phantom X 11.5, TaylorMade Spider X Hydro Blast, Ping Vault 2.0 Dale Anser, and of course, the Odyssey Versa Jailbird.

Rory Hits Persimmon, Debate Erupts

First, here’s the swing with the persimmon. Also, if you didn’t know before because you aren’t old, this is where the term “hitting it on the screws” comes from.

Of course, the old equipment doesn’t go as far, so that brought up the distance debate again. 285 vs 330.

Do the old clubs require more skill? Should we roll equipment back? Does it even matter? Who knows.

Golf Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke

SHAKE YOUR GROOVE THING!

Look, I don’t know how y’all feel about Vice golf gear, but I feel like it’s highly slept on. They got good gear and even better balls, especially for the price range. So, I was feeling far out when I saw that Vice just dropped this new collection called “You’ll Never Putt Alone!”.

With the new collection, you can snag 1960’s psychedelic inspired gear like Pro Plus golf balls, divot fix/ball marker combos, towels, tees, and a t-shirt. If I were me, I’m picking up balls ($39.99) and that outta sight t-shirt ($34.99).

That's all folks! Have a great weekend of golf and see you Monday.
