Ryder Cup Implications, Gear, and Jimmy Buffett.

Good Morning. We’ve got a quick one for you today. Enjoy your coffee.

On Monday, we will have a new logo and layout. We hope you’ll like it.

Golf Joke: Two guys were playing golf, one of them was about to swing the golf club when he noticed a funeral procession going by on the street. The man stopped in mid-swing and closed his eyes and said a short prayer. The other man truly inspired, remarked, clearing his throat, “wow that was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.” “Well”, the other man said “I was married to her for 35 years.”

Here's what we've got for ya today:

  • European Masters / Ryder Cup Implications

  • Happy Holidays

  • Golf Shots Heard Round The World

  • For Your Golf Playlist

  • Social Roundup

  • Golf Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke

The European Masters

What’s the deal, you didn’t even bet on this one?

Yes, observant reader, that is correct. We did not place any bets on the European Masters this week.

However, as we noted on Wednesday, there are major implications for Team Europe in the Ryder Cup, depending on the outcome of the European Masters.

So, we’re gonna talk about those aforementioned implications.

Also, another cool note: Matt Fitzpatrick is in the lead, but his younger brother Alex is just 3-behind. Both very much in contention with two days left to play.

Okay, so?

Matt Fitzpatrick and Tommy Fleetwood: According to the DP World Tour, the Englishman needs to finish T7 (tied with one player or better) to take Fleetwood’s spot on the World Points list.

Robert MacIntyre: Could still be caught even if he finishes second, so needs to win to absolutely guarantee his place, but only a top-three finish from fellow contenders will threaten his position.

Yannik Paul will qualify if he wins. He would need to finish at least tied for third with two others, or better, to have a chance.

Adrian Meronk needs to finish in a tie for second with just one player or better to have a chance.

Victor Perez needs to finish in second place alone, or to win to have a chance.

Rasmus Højgaard needs to win to have a chance.

Adrian Otaegui needs to win to have a chance.

Captain Luke Donald will announce his picks 24 hours after the end of the tournament. (Monday September 4th)

Happy Holidays To Those Who Celebrate

Yeah, its a golf newsletter, but we all know there’s nothing better than an early morning round of fall golf, followed by 8 straight hours of food and football.

And football is back, baby!

You may not like it, but this is what peak male performance looks like.

For Your Golf Playlist

RIP Jimmy Buffett

I’ve done a bit of smuggling.

I’ve run my share of grass.

I made enough money to buy Miami.

But I pissed it away so fast.

Social Round Up

  1. Ryder Cup Wedges

According to @jonathanrwall on Twitter, custom Ryder Cup Vokey Wedges will be given to each player with their respective team flag engraving. Even as huge fans of the US Team, we think both wedges are absolutely fire yet classy. And apparently, these engravings are available on WedgeWorks as well!

  2. Slow News Cycle

Thank goodness for Golf Digest, otherwise, we might not have ever known that Jon Rahm could tell us where every single bathroom is at Augusta! Can you tell we miss the regular golf season already?

  3. Data Behind Scratch Golfers

Interestingly enough, we found this Twitter thread on Instagram (let that statement sink in) and learned a thing or two about what it takes to be a bona fide scratch golfer.

  4. Scratch To Scratch

Speaking of scratch golf, we thought you’d love to give Jerome Rufin a subscribe on YouTube, who is “hoping that by the end of this journey I will be able to achieve my lifelong goal of going from a beginner to becoming a scratch golfer.”
