Preview: The Rocket Mortgage Classic

We've reached the summer doldrums of the PGA Tour schedule.
The Rocket Mortgage Classic this week and The John Deere Classic next week feature two of the weakest fields of the year. The JDC literally starts on the 4th of July, which is a tough draw for them.
But that doesn’t mean these next two weeks will be devoid of storylines…
For example, 15-year-old Miles Russell will be making his PGA Tour debut this week. You may remember him from a few weeks ago when he became the youngest player to ever make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour.
He won’t be the only up-and-comer in the field either. It also includes a few of the biggest college standouts and Neal Shipley, who nabbed Low Amateur honors at both The Masters and The U.S. Open.

What Our Guts Tell Us: There are a handful of favorites playing that are better than the rest, but it feels like someone from the middle of the pack is going to win.

News: America’s New Favorite Golfer
One week you’re working at Golf Galaxy, the next week you’re in the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Just like that.
Nick Bienz is the most famous guy in golf this week, and it all started with some live tweeting from Ryan French at Monday Q.
On Monday, Nick found himself facing a five-for-four playoff to get into the Rocket Mortgage Classic. It was the biggest event of his life, so naturally, he was a little nervous.
The short video interview he did with Ryan featured him polishing off three beers to calm his nerves before he handled business in the playoff. He ended up qualifying for his first PGA Tour event.
He also went viral in the process, with Kevin Kisner tweeting the PGA Tour to pair them together, Bo Van Pelt tweeting at Golf Galaxy that they better give him some free gear, and several companies offering to sponsor him.
“I have to call my boss and call off work tomorrow for sure,” Bienz told French after his round. “I’m supposed to be there at 7:30 in the morning [Tuesday], and I don’t think that’s going to happen.”
Further Reading: Ryan French also wrote a great post giving the young man his best advice for enjoying his first PGA Tour event.
