Rocket Mortgage Recap

BDR wins, Tiger speaks out, Womens US Open, and more.

Good afternoon and welcome to Caddyshanks. We’re that buddy who says “hey you forgot your wedge again, idiot!” after you leave the 60 degree you shouldn’t even be using on the previous green. You’re welcome!

Here's what we've got for ya today:

  • Quick Recap: Rocket Mortgage Classic

  • Tiger Says “never seen it”.

  • Early Lines: John Deere Classic

Quick Recap: Rocket Mortgage Classic

👑 Winner: Rickie Fowler 1.58M

Four years and four months is a heckuva drought. That’s four years of grinding, searching, and frustration without validation that your work is “worth it”.

Would you quit, or keep grinding?

It’s not like Rickie Fowler had to keep grinding… we all know he’s a marketing machine and those sweet, sweet, ad dollars will probably last for a long time.

Yet, he persisted and completed his personal comeback tour anyway. An endeavor worthy of respect and admiration.

Of course, it wasn’t easy in Detroit this weekend either. Yes, it was a birdie-fest, but no win on tour is a gimme.

He birdied the 72nd hole to force a playoff with Adam Hadwin and Collin Morikawa.

Then he sprayed his tee shot right while replaying the 18th hole in the playoff.

Then he threw a dart to 11 feet and poured in another birdie to win it all.

In typical Rickie Fowler fashion, he gave us a quote to remember afterward, while standing beside his wife and young daughter:

“Yeah, winning’s great, but there’s a lot more to life than that.”

Shanks Picks Update

Remember last week when we were like “let’s disregard all the data at our disposal and go with our gut"? Well, that was a stupid idea.

Ludvig Aberg kept it interesting, but ultimately faltered. Justin Thomas stank. Our sole hit was Aaron Rai to finish top 20 +220. We will do better for the John Deere this week.

Tiger Says “Never seen it”

Okay, here’s a quick breakdown of the continuing drama in the world of golf.

First, a leak happened. You can read that in the tweet below, but essentially the PGAT had drafted a speech for Tiger, which was super corny.

Tiger, for his part, has not said a freaking word during all of this LIV Drama.

Probably smart, lest he end up stabbed in the back like Rory.

He did tweet this though:

Early Lines: John Deere

This event is usually the weakest on tour in terms of star power.

Cameron Young is the sole top twenty OWGR player this week, if that tells you anything.

This tournament, lacking stars, has actually proven to be a good launching point for younger golfers on the tour.

Maybe we pick our boy Ludvig again at +2200?

Golf Shots Heard Round The World

Arrested: It turns out, if your flipping golf carts and destroying property, you can be arrested. As these vacationers found out.

Women’s US Open

For the first time in history, the LPGA is headed to the fabled Pebble Beach for a major championship.

You know who the favorite is? Rose Zhang, who shot a course record 63 there last fall.

She is currently +1200 on Fanduel and we are gonna go ahead and lock that in.

The 2023 U.S. Women’s Open takes place on Thursday, July 6 through Sunday, July 9 in Pebble Beach, California. NBC Sports will provide a record 12 hours of coverage on Saturday and Sunday, including live primetime coverage for the first time in championship history.

Golf Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke

We have found possibly the most absurd golf item ever created.

A Tiffany & Co sterling silver golf tee and ball marker.

Who would ever even use this? Is it meant to be used? Do you buy a pack of them if you are really rich just to stunt on your buddies?

That's all folks! See you Wednesday where we'll talk John Deere Classic bets.
