Quick Recap: The Masters

Scottie Scheffler Wins 2nd Green Jacket

For a while on a picture-perfect Sunday afternoon at Augusta National, it looked like we might see an all-time race for the Masters develop.

The four guys playing in the last two groups - Scheffler, Collin Morikawa, Max Homa and Ludvig Åberg - were all tied at 6-under at one point on the front nine.

But then Scheffler, who shot a 68 in the final round, stepped on the gas, and everyone else fell behind. That seems to be a recurring theme in 2024.

On Sunday, Scottie once again declared himself the dominant force of this era.

The 27-year-old won the Masters by four strokes to get his second green jacket in three years. He becomes the fourth-youngest golfer ever to win the Masters twice, following legends Jack Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros and Tiger Woods.

Scheffler joins the elite company of Nicklaus and Woods as the only three players with two Players Championship wins and two green jackets.

Amen Corner Got Everyone Else

Ludvig Aberg finished in solo second place during his Masters debut. It was an impressive outing for a kid who was in college one year ago at this time. Unfortunately, his inexperience caught up with him when he put his approach in the water on the 11th hole.

Max Homa had his career best major finish, but it could’ve been better. At the 12th hole on Sunday, a ball hit directly at the flag bounced and hopped into the bushes. He made double and his Masters bid was over.

“The honest answer is, it didn’t feel fair. I hit a really good golf shot, and it didn’t feel fair. I’ve seen far worse just roll back down the hill,” he said.

“The professional answer is, these things happen.”

Collin Morikawa began the day one shot off the lead, but later said his own greed cost him a shot at the jacket. He also put one in the drink on the 11th.

How a father-daughter Masters trip revealed golf’s true magic.

For all the Dads out there, Golf Mags Claire Rodgers wrote a tearjerker.

“So dads, here’s an idea for you: Bring your daughter to the Masters. Bring your daughter to any golf tournament. Enroll them in a Tuesday morning golf league and take them every week. Let them like golf and let them hate golf and let them learn to love golf, no matter which form that takes. Be the Dad who breaks the norm, and don’t fear it.

And dads, do all those things because your daughters will notice. They’ll notice your effort, your care and your love. And though it may not come easily or quickly, they’ll notice the golf, too.

Maybe you’ll wake up one morning and find yourself at the Masters.

Or, even better, maybe you’ll wake up one morning and find you’ve made a friend.”

The Last Putting Lesson You’ll Ever Need

Derek Uyeda has been the putting coach for Max Homa, Phil Mickelson, and Xander Schauffele. In the video below, he works with an amateur on grip, set-up, where you should look when you putt, and he gives him a drill that you can incorporate in your practice work.

New Drop: Malbon

The Malbon Vest that broke the internet.

We’re still not sure if this vest can be considered a win for Malbon or not…

On one hand, all press is good press.

On the other hand, Augusta National literally asked him to take it off.

That’s all folks! See you Wednesday with some picks for The RBC Heritage. Get your plaid out.
