Plus: Broken Clubs, Bucket Hats, and Big Drives.

Good afternoon! Welcome to Shanks, and Happy Labor Day. We don’t take days off around here, but we hope you are on a golf course somewhere, enjoying a beautiful day, and having a cold one on our behalf.

Trivia: How many dimples are on a Titleist Pro V1?

If you know without googling, congrats, you’re a golf sicko.

Answer Below.

Here's what we've got for ya today:

2023 Ryder Cup Teams

At 9am this morning, Team Europe Captain Luke Donald announced his captains picks in addition to the six who are already locked in. We now know what both Ryder Cup squads will look like.

Here they are:

Team USA

Team Europe

Team USA: Sam Burns, Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schaufele, and Max Homa.

Team Europe: Justin Rose, Shane Lowry, Nocolai Hojgaard, Ludvig Aberg, Tommy Fleetwood, Sepp Straka, Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton, Bobby Mac, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Jon Rahm.

Walker Cup Streak Continues For USA

After one day of play at the Walker Cup, a heavily favored U.S. team was on the ropes.

The Americans started the final day of the two-day, four-session team matches at St. Andrews against their opponents from Great Britain and Ireland down three points, losing both the foursomes and singles sessions on Saturday.

But captain Mike McCoy took a gamble, sending out his two best players, top-ranked amateur Gordan Sargent and reigning U.S. Amateur champion Nick Dunlap together in Sunday morning foursomes.

Shanks Says: It’s insane how long these young bucks hit the ball these days. Top ranked amateur Gordon Sargent drove the 18th Green at St. Andrews (twice) once with a choked down driver and once with a 3-wood.

It was reported earlier in the week that he drove the green on the 6th hole from 414 yards.

Maybe they should do a roll-back?

Golf Shots Heard Round The World

Bad Break

Yesterday, while being driven over to the playoff hole, Anne Van Dam got totally screwed. As you can see in the video, the rope gets caught on her bag and rips the head off of her driver.

The worst part? That was already her backup driver, because the airlines broke her original on the way to the tournament to begin with.

While she would’ve been allowed to replace it by the rules, if she had a backup, she ended up taking 3-wood off of the tee and losing in the playoff.

Golf Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke

Frankly, this bucket hat isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, and thats fine.

As for us, we haven’t seen anything that looks like this on a golf course and for that reason alone it earns a special spot on the newsletter.

Cheers to being different.

That’s all folks! See you Wednesday.
