Quick Update: The Amex

An Amateur In The Lead

Nick Dunlop, a 20-year-old sophomore from Alabama, is in the lead by three strokes heading into the final round, at 27-under.

He shot a 60 in the third round that featured ten birdies, no bogeys, and an Eagle.

He is only the second amateur ever to card a 60 in a PGA Tour event.

He Would Get Paid $0 For His Win

Yes, because he is an amateur and not a professional yet, he would take home approximately zero percent of the purse if he wins.

Amateurs are allowed to collect no money and they can’t even retroactively declare themselves a pro and collect it either.

He can, however, turn pro at any point in the year and he would get his two year two exemption and he’d be able to play in any full-field event this season.

Oh, and trust me, he will see some financial rewards if he wins.. because of this little thing called NIL, which is likely already paying him nicely since he won the 2023 US Amateur.

What About Everybody Else?

Sam Burns is in solo second (-24) and Justin Thomas is in solo third (-23) which could make for an interesting finish on Sunday.

Can Dunlop hold them off?

There’s a handful of great golfers in the 20-under range, but that’s probably not close enough to make this a contest.

Shanks Picks

Okay, we got a chance here.

Outright Pick: Jason Day is not going to win this golf tournament. He is currently 14-under and T39.

Top Five: The JT Poston redemption pick is currently T5 heading into the final round. at 20-under. This one could pay.

Top Ten: The contrarian Justin Thomas pick looks like it’s going to work out for our 2nd top ten in 3 weeks.

Top Twenty: MC for Billy Horschel.

Longshot: Keith Mitchell is T39 with Jason Day and has no shot.

MTCP: Si Woo, Wyndham, and Chris Kirk all made the cut. That’s a hit at +170

Transgender Wins Women’s Tournament

Yeah, this is totally what a female golfer looks like.

We Live In Upside Down Land

Men and Women are split into different divisions in sports for a reason.

This isn’t based on ideology, or religion, or anything else. It is simply science and biology.

This is about genetics and the inherent advantages men have over women in sport because of their muscle mass, bone structure, and lung capacity, among other things.

It’s Wrong

Imagine, for a second, that you were a biological female who is grinding to become a pro, and you have your spot taken by someone using an unfair advantage.

And you can’t do anything about it because the ideologues, who don’t care about women’s golf, have some cheap political points to win in the name of “fairness and inclusion”.

How would you feel? What about if it was your daughter who got her spot stolen?

What do you think? Feel free to let me know on Twitter.
