Two Records: One Tied, One Ended
Tony Finau posted the lowest score of the day on Friday (62) and catapulted himself to the top of the leaderboard in the process.
He was six-under for the last seven holes of the round. His 62 matches the course record and it’s actually the second time he’s done it in this tournament.
The first was back in the fall of 2022. Did we mention he won that year?
Scottie Scheffler had a PGA Tour record streak going with 28 consecutive rounds under par (absurd) and it ended with a disastrous double bogey three putt on 18.
He shot even-par on the day. That puts him four back of Tony and T4.
What about everybody else?
Finau is two ahead of Argentina’s Alejandro Tosti, a rookie, who is contending for the first time in his career. He’s previous best finish is 43rd.
Thomas Detry, who’s been near the top of the leaderboard a few times this season is in solo third.
First round leader Taylor Moore, Scottie Scheffler, Stephen Jaeger, Akshay Bhattia, Joe Highsmith, and Chad Ramey are all T4 at five-under.
Shanks Picks Recap
We were all over Tony Finau…last week.
Winner: Sahith Theegala
It would take a total collapse from Tony Finau and a superhuman effort from Sahith to erase a nine stroke lead over two days.
Top Five: Jason Day
Yikes. Missed the cut.
Top Ten: Stephen Jaeger
Ayyye. We’ve got a live one. Stephen is currently T4.
Top Twenty: Kurt Kityama
Made the cut on the number at +1. Top Twenty position is -2 after the first two rounds. There’s a chance here.
Longshot: Jake Knapp
Yikes. Missed the cut.

Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke
You know Bentley, the car manufacturer?
Well, they made some golf accessories, a putter, a driver, and some wedges. I guess there must be a lot of crossover between people who golf and people who drive Bentley’s.
Fortunately, they don’t cost as much as one of their cars.
That’s all folks! See you Monday.
