⛳️ The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

Plus: a movie, a bet, and a custom wedge.

Good afternoon! Welcome to Shanks. It’s Fedex Fall baby! We’ve got a series of seven PGAT events, the Ryder Cup, NFL season, and of course the MLB Playoffs are right around the corner. It’s a beautiful collision of sport. Grab your pumpkin spice lattes and strap in.

Trivia: The Ryder Cup was named after a successful businessman named Samuel Ryder. What type of business made him rich?

Answer Below.

Here's what we've got for ya today:

  • Early Lines: Fortinet Championship

Super Quick Recap: Irish Open

We aren’t sure how else to phrase this, but Rory kinda fell apart in his home country’s open yesterday. Falling from 3rd to 16th place with a +2 final round.

He ended up putting four balls in the water during his round on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Vincent Norrman became the second Swede to win in back-to-back weeks, following up Ryder Cup Rookie Ludvig Abergs win last week.

Sadly, none of the other Caddyshanks bets hit besides the Make The Cut Parlay. We will be back at it on Wednesday for the Fortinet Championship.

Early Lines: Fortinet Championship

Starting with the Fortinet Championship, the FedEx Fall consists of a seven-tournament lineup that provides an opportunity for those who finished outside the top 50 in FedEx Cup points after the FedEx St. Jude Championship to climb the ranks.

That’s a mouthful.

Max Homa has won this event in back to back years, and he is the heavy favorite at +750.

This week also figures to be an important week for Justin Thomas, who is in the field and trying to get right before the Ryder Cup.

Early Bet: Sahith Theegala at +2000

Are Fairways Overrated?

Watch Me

Yeah, we’ve got Fedex Fall, NFL, and MLB to watch, but what about when there’s nothing on a Tuesday Night?

Watch a classic like The Greatest Game Ever Played (2005). The film about one of the most important moments in golf history - when amateur Francis Ouimet (played by Shia LaBeouf), won the US Open in 1913.

This 2-hour Disney+ flick shows Ouimet employed as a caddy at the exclusive Brookline Country Club, where he fine-tunes his skills during off hours. His father, Arthur (Elias Koteas), disapproves, but a few admirers seek to aid Ouimet in entering the 1913 U.S. Open. Everyone loves an underdog right?

Available on Disney+.

Golf Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke

We were perusing social media after a long day of crushing our enemies in fantasy football when we stumbled upon this…

Look at this Titleist Vokey SM9. It’s so sick! And even though we are on the precipice of a beautiful fall season full of family, fall golf, and football, this makes us want to be back in the throws of the hot summer on a beachside course hitting this wedge to within 1 foot of the pin. Where does this club come from?

GrindYourGolf.com - a small shop based in Ogden, Utah. At Grind Your Golf, the goal is to “give players the opportunity to bring their unique personality to the course with them through their golf clubs and accessories.” We love that. For custom wedge work, it’ll cost you a measly $125, but you can reach out though their custom request portal to get a ball market or bag tag customized as well, and it’ll cost less than a wedge.

That’s all folks! See you Wednesday.

Trivia Answer: Samuel Ryder was a seed merchant, but he came up with the idea to sell “penny packets” of seeds by mail. The more ya know!
