Update: Charles Schwab Challenge

Two weeks in a row, all of the headlines in professional golf are about Michael Block.

Last week it was all love, then this week he said on a podcast that if he had Rory McIlroy’s length, he’d be one of the best players on tour.

The data indicates that is false, but we appreciate the confidence.

As soon as those words left his mouth, the clip started doing the rounds on social media, and as is typical of our social media society, the man everyone loved last week is getting absolutely crucified this week.

So, after a storybook PGA performance, Michael Block shot an opening round 81, and is in dead last at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

That’s golf!

Charles Schwab Challenge Leaderboard.

Other than the continuing story of Michael Block, yesterday was a relatively quiet day of competition. Here are some updated odds before round two starts on Friday.

+350: Scottie Scheffler (-3, T7)

+1100: Harry Hall (-8, 1st)

+1400: Max Homa (-3, T7)

+1600: Sam Burns (-3, T7)

+1600: Harris English (-5, 2nd)

+2200: Si Woo Kim (-3, T7)

+2500: Tom Hoge (-4, T3)

+2500: Andrew Putnam (-4, T3)

Shanks Picks Update:

We liked Justin Rose and Jordan Spieth as outright winners. Despite Spieth saying his wrist felt great, he ended up shooting two over. Justin Rose is sitting pretty at -1.

We also liked Justin Suh to finish top 5. He currently sits -2.

Eric Cole was our Top Ten pick. He currently sits at -1.

If you’re looking for a weekend bet, maybe take Homa or SW Kim.

Phil vs Brandel II

On Monday, we reported on the CH3 vs Brandel Beef.

Today, we’re checking in for part two of this continuing saga.

On Wednesday, Brandel fired off a tweet defending himself against being accused of being a paid actor for NBC, while simultaneously explaining his thoughts on why he hates LIV. You can read that here if you want.

Of course, Phil responded to Brandel… or he tried to.

Golf Shots Heard Round The World

Paddy: Padraig Harrington shoots an opening round 64 at the Senior PGA Championship.

Preggers: LPGA’s Amy Olson Qualifies for U.S. Open While Six Months Pregnant.

No Chance: Sergio was told there is “no chance” he plays in the Ryder Cup.

LIV D.C. Event Starts Today

Just a reminder, Catch LIV Golf today at 1:15pm EST on The CW App and LIV Golf Plus. Then Saturday and Sunday live on The CW Network, The CW App, and LIV Golf Plus. Starting on hole number 1 is Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, and Brooks Koepka which is just like the coolest trio you can think of no?

If you don’t know who else you should be looking out for, see the pic which is your LIV Golf DC Power Rankings. Personally, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Dechambeau or Smith take the LIV DC win this weekend. Both are playing to near fullest potential, and hitting this midseason form could be the golden ticket.

Golf Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke

Not even going to talk about the fact that there isn’t a spot dedicated to hold your golf clubs because who cares? This 6-seater, Limo Renegade golf cart is the perfect transpo for you to bring all the boys out on the course at once. Which, if you’re like me, would be absolute madness.

What more is there to say? It’s massive and a huge upgrade from your local muni cart that feels like it can’t even make it up a tiny hill. Check out the video too, it’ll remind you just how broke you are. ($11,998.95)

That's all folks! Have a great MDW.
