⛳ Recap: Fedex St. Jude
Glover wins again, Cam Smith wins, and more.
Good Afternoon. Welcome to Shanks. Only one bet from last weeks card hit, but it was a solid one. Tommy Fleetwood Top 5 +610.
Trivia: Besides Lucas Glover, who was the last player to win the week before, and then win in a playoff the following week? Answer below.
Here's what we've got for ya today:

Quick Recap: Fedex St. Jude
👑 Winner: Lucas Glover $3.6M
Lucas Glover won twice on the PGA Tour in his 20’s, that includes winning the US Open. Then, for a decade, he had the yips.
For ten years the guy couldn’t make a three foot putt.
Now, he’s won more times (3) in his 40’s than he did in his 20’s…because he got a new putter. You seriously can’t make this stuff up.
someone who used to putt like this just won back-to-back PGA Tour events.
anything is possible!

If you read that, and thought to yourself “How did he not quit?!” you aren’t alone. He was asked about it in his presser.
“Maybe I'm really stubborn,” he said. “You know, (the last) 10 years up until this run, I've underachieved and knew it. It was all because of putting. It was just believing in myself, and (being) hard-headed and stubborn enough to not give up.
“It took something drastic to figure it out, but it's worked.”
That drastic change? The switch to a L.A.B. Golf MEZZ.1 MAX putter.
If the guys at L.A.B. aren’t setting sales records for their putters right now, the entire marketing team should be fired.
“A dude in his 40’s just won back to back weeks on the Tour, after a ten year bout of the yips, because he bought our putter.” is the best marketing slogan you could possibly have for golf equipment.
On the back nine, Lucas made the following putts:
20 foot par save on 13
30 foot bogey save on 14
11 foot par save on 17
He and Patrick Cantlay went to a playoff. Cantlay put his tee shot into the water on the first playoff hole.
Glover made an easy two-putt par, Cantlay made bogey.
And just like that, back to back wins for 43 year old Lucas Glover. The second oldest guy in the playoffs behind Matt Kuchar. Incredible.
What about everyone else?
Patrick Cantlay: The human tortoise, despite his slow pace of play, is a helluva golfer. He’s like a stat nerds dream. As we mentioned above, he pulled his driver a little left in the playoff, and that was all she wrote.
Tommy Fleetwood: 22nd top-5 finish on the PGA Tour, most of any player on the PGA Tour without a win the last 40 years. He’s gotta win eventually right?
Rory McIlroy: Finished T3, which is pretty much expected at this point. Rory is the calibre of golfer who is measured in majors. We will have to wait a few more months for one of those.
Max Homa & Jordan Spieth: Both played well, but not well enough. They finished T6 and both advanced to the BMW Championship.
Quick Recap: LIV Bedminster
👑 Individual Winner: Cam Smith - $4M
👑 Team Winner: Ripper GC - $3M
Cam Smith captured his third LIV Golf victory and his second win in just three starts on Sunday by a stunning margin of seven shots.
Smith ultimately won with three steady rounds of 66, 67 and 68 at Trump National Bedminster for a tournament total of 12 under par. Anirban Lahiri came in second at 5 under, and Abraham Ancer, Patrick Reed and Dean Burmester tied for third at 4 under.

Last year, Patrick Cantlay won to go back to back. Can he make it a three-peat?
Some initial thoughts…
We don’t hate the number on Max Homa / Jordan Spieth.
Tyrrell Hatton, despite being ranked 3rd for the season in SG:T2G, now sits at 26th in the Fedex standings. That means he needs a strong finish this week to stay in the top 30 for the Tour Championship.
We have been fading the prize horses with short odds (Scheffler, Rory, Rahm) and that has kept us alive since we’ve had so many longshot winners the last few weeks. Maybe that changes this week.
As always, see you Wednesday at noon for the card.
Golf Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke

Accurately provides real time yardages to the green and to hazards on over 40,000 courses

While $199.00 covers the product, if doesn’t in fact cover GPS capability, but if you preorder now, you can take advantage of the sweet deals that are $0 for a year of Player+ Premium or 3 years and only $49 for Player+ Premium.
The Player+ GPS Speaker by Blue Tees is set to ship starting October 2023.
