Golf and Gambling.

Name a better duo. We'll wait.

Good Afternoon. Welcome to Shanks. This is a FINAL WARNING. Sunday is Mothers Day. Don't forget because it will come back to haunt you.

Here's what we've got for ya today:

  • Update: AT&T Byron Nelson

  • Easiest Golf Gambling Game

  • Golf Shots Heard Round The World

  • Towel Drill

  • Scotty Cameron Giveaway

  • Golf Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke

The Question: Who the f*ck is S.Y. Noh?

The Answer: he's the dude who shot 11-under (a tournament record 60) in the opening round yesterday. We told you it'd be a birdie fest and the pros usually tear it up here.

For once, we were right. (Something about broke clocks or blind squirrels applies here.)

You'll probably read on the internet that he was actually playing with a cracked driver for a few holes, and got it replaced on the 16th. Pretty wild.

So, what was the key to this dude playing out of his mind?

Putting. Putting. Putting.

He gained 6.5 strokes on the field with the magic wand in his hand.

According to CBS he made putts of:

  • 15 feet

  • 39 feet

  • 27 feet

  • 34 feet

Conclusion: It's gonna take a lot for this fella to hold on with Scottie, Hideki, Adam Scott, and some other big names behind him. We can't expect him to putt like that for four straight days can we?

What about everyone else?

As of writing this morning, Scottie Scheffler birdied his first hole to get himself in a tie for second place. Maybe the craziest thing is that he started his first round with SIX straight birdies. He was 50% to win the hole thing after the first six holes according to Data Golf.

Adam Scott and and Zecheng Dou are tied for 2nd place now with Scheffler. They are set to go off this afternoon. If you like Scott to win he is currently +800 via BetMGM.

Shanks Picks Update:

Jason Day: He's won the Nelson before, and he's right in the thick of it. There's hope for us yet. *He's playing as I am writing this & is -1 through two holes* now T3.

Hideki: We picked him to finish top five. He's within striking distance at T15.

Davis Riley: Davis is at -4 and T36. We'd like to see our Top 10 pick make a move today.

Maverick McNealy: Not a great first round. He's +1 and T126. Safe to say this longshot bet was a bust.

The Easiest Golf Gambling Game

Look, I have friends that play golf and don't keep a handicap. I try to explain to them that they can't properly gamble without a handicap and that gambling and golf go together like peanut butter and jelly. They don't seem to give a sh*t.

So, here's a game anyone can bet on: it's called snake.

That's it. Dead simple way to take your friends money. No HC required.

Golf Shots Heard Round The World

9 Year Old: This 9-year-old entered U.S. Open qualifying. Here’s how she fared.

Tiger & Scottie: A clip was making the rounds yesterday where Tiger tells Scottie he doesn't take divots when he's pure.

Two Brothers:  Spread their late fathers ashes on the course, yesterday they faced off in the finals of the MetropolitanPGA Match play event, at the very same course.

TOWEL DRILL

GIVEAWAY NEXT WEEK

Next Thursday we are going to be doing a giveaway on Instagram with Group Chat Golf during the PGA Championship.

Keep your eye on our Instagram next week for details on how to win.

Golf Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke

Yes, I know it’s not exactly something you can buy nor is it really golf related but hold your damn horses and let me explain. This beautiful 1973 Ford Bronco can be yours, all you need to do is win the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas on May 25-28.

Let’s check the specs:

  • 465 horsepower

  • Ford 2023 Gen 3 Coyote 5.0L engine

  • Push-button four-wheel drive system

  • Upholstery stitched with Scottish tartan; the same style won by the tournament winner

  • The Ford logo replaced with the word Schwab in the same font

It’s sick. I want it. It’s perfect. I will never win a PGA tournament to get it. F**K.

That's all folks! Don't forget it's mothers day.
