⛳️ Six Way Tie At Bay Hill

Plus: The Bromosa, Smylie's Happy Hour, and Tiger stuff.

Good Morning! Welcome to Shanks. They are calling for some serious wind today at Bay Hill, which means it’ll be tough sledding out there. Thank the golf gods for a week without a birdie-fest.

Here's what we've got for ya today:

  • Quick Update: The AP Invitational

  • Tiger Out At The Players, In As Vice Chairman

  • Would You Drink A Bromosa?

  • Shots Heard Round The World

  • ICYMI: Smylie’s Happy Hour

  • Thing We’d Buy If We Weren’t Broke

Quick Update: The AP Invitational

For The First Time In Forever…

The top of the leaderboard after two rounds at Bay Hill includes five major champions (and Russel Henley).

Shout-out to all the girl dads reading this who now have Frozen stuck in their head. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, keep reading for more golf.

Back to the leaderboard…we’ve got Scottie Scheffler, Hideki Matsuyama, Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman, Shane Lowry, and Russel Henley all neck and neck at seven-under and T1.

Lowry set the pace, but gave up some ground to the rest of the pack.

Scottie gained strokes on the green in round two. I repeat, Scottie Scheffler has gained stokes on the green in round two.

Hideki is in such good form after winning The Genesis he might become our pick to win The Masters, he’s done it before after all.

Wyndham Clark shot five-under on the back nine Friday. Brian Harman made five birds and almost went bogey-free, but made his lone mistake of the day on the 18th.

Somewhere in Ponte Vedra, a PGA Tour executive is sighing in relief.

Finally, some big names have shown up on top of the leaderboard. Now, if you’re a die hard golf junkie, you may not care. There’s plenty of people out there who just want to watch competitive golf on a great course, regardless of the names on the board.

But the execs? They know big names draw eyeballs and the big names have been quiet this year. Friday afternoon, that changed a bit.

Oh, and Will Zalatoris, aka Willy The Stick, is in solo-second at six-under. He’s been getting better and better every week. Early leader for comeback player of the year honors.

What about everybody else?

Our pre-tourney long shot pick is right in the thick of it. It would probably upset the aforementioned PGA Tour executives if he won, but it sure would make us happy to see Emiliano Grillo pull it off. He and Stephen Jaeger are T8 at five-under.

In The Hunt (-4) Justin Thomas, Viktor Hovland, Sahith Theegala, Ben An, Max Homa, and Nick Taylor.

Shanks Picks Recap

We made a mistake earlier in the week and called this a no-cut event. In reality, it was structured similar to The Genesis, with the Top-50 and anyone within ten strokes of the lead making the cut. That’s our bad. Now for the card review 👇️

Winner: Jordan Spieth

I want off the rollercoaster, but the seatbelt is stuck so they are sending me around again and I feel like I might puke.

Top Five: Scottie Scheffler

Round one, not so good with the putting. Round two, much better! Let’s hope that trend continues.

Top Ten: Ludvig Aberg

Swing and a miss. Barely made the cut.

Top Twenty: Matt Fitz

Missed cut.

Longshot: Emiliano Grillo

With Performance Golf

The Key To More Accuracy, Consistency, And Lower Scores.

We recently came across this quote from 37-year Tour Veteran Rocco Mediate that’s extremely important for golfers to understand:

“When I was in my prime, the only way to dial-in your contact and accuracy was to hit thousands of balls working on each core swing mechanic seperately.

While you work on one mechanic… The other parts of your swing WILL fall apart. Before today you had to be willing to take 2 steps back to go 1 step forward.

But who has time for this amount of practice? I don’t have that kind of time anymore.”

The good news is…

Thanks to innovative golf science, there’s a much easier and faster way.

Here’s proof:

Tiger Won’t Compete At The Players, But He Is The Vice Chairman Of The Board Now

Tiger Woods will not be competing in the Players, according to reports.

He will be resting up for The Masters, which is in 30 days (hell yeah).

He is also now the Vice Chairman of the new PGA Tour Enterprises board. Here’s what the new board looks like:

Player Directors: Patrick Cantlay, Peter Malnati, Adam Scott, Webb Simpson, Jordan Spieth, and Tiger.

PGA Tour Representatives: Joe Ogilvie, Joe Gorder, and commissioner Jay Monahan.

SSG Representatives: John Henry, Arthur Blank, Andrew Cohen and Sam Kennedy.

The board is responsible for stewarding the PGA Tour’s new for-profit entity “PGA Tour Enterprises” as it looks to “grow the game”.

ICYMI: Smylie’s Happy Hour

In case you missed it…

Friday afternoon, Smylie Kaufman brought Max Homa and Jordan Spieth onto the broadcast for “Smylie’s Happy Hour”.

According to the reactions on Twitter and the Caddyshanks team, it was a big hit.

Spieth predicted Scottie’s chip in for eagle and Max Homa roasted a Smylie drive.

Homa also roasted Scottie a little bit too.

Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke

Adidas Golf and Malbon have dropped another new collection.

This one features 11 total pieces as you can see above.

The vests and rugby though? Clear winners. Great color selection on the polos too.

That’s all folks! See you Monday.
