Update: Memorial Tournament

Muirfield Village said “f*ck around and find out” to quite a few golfers yesterday, and a few of them did.

Last years Champ, Billy Horschel, shot an 84.

Chad Ramey made a 13 on his final hole (9th), where he was hitting his second shot from only a little over 100yds away. One of us!

Even Scottie Scheffler struggled in the first round, his issues with the wand continuing.

All of this tells you two things:

  1. Golf is hard

  2. Jack does not like to make it easy on these guys.

Memorial Tournament Leaderboard

What about everyone else?

Davis Riley, or as I like to call him, the pride of Hattiesburg Mississippi, finished the day in solo first after birdies on three of his last four holes.

You may remember he and Nick Hardy won the Zurich Classic together a few weeks ago. Can he hold on? Maybe, but I doubt it.

Jordan Spieth was an up and down machine yesterday. He only hit 7 of his first 16 greens in regulation, yet was bogey free until the last. Man, when this guys short game is on… its ON. He sits at -3.

Jon Rahm is lurking at -2, and T10. He’s won this event before. He should’ve won it twice, but they ejected him in 2021 over an absurd covid policy.

Shanks Picks Update:

Not our best, not our worst.

Winner Rickie Fowler: Rickie is looking okay, sitting five back of Riley at even par. If you did take Patrick Cantlay, he’s also looking okay at -1.

Top Five: Gary Woodland (he is now in danger of not making the cut).

Top Ten: Cam Young currently sits +2 and seven off the leader. Gonna be a battle.

Top Twenty: Shane Lowry is T4 and looking good so far!

Long Shots: Sahith Theegala is not likely to win this thing after a +4 opening round, but between him, Cam Young, and Akshay Bhattia, well, they are bound to get that first win eventually.

Rose Zhang Has Arrived

You’ve heard it on this very newsletter and now you are going to hear it again.

This chick can flat out ball. She had more wins at Stanford than Tiger and she made her professional debut yesterday. She shot -2.

Golf Shots Heard Round The World

Emotional: Billy Horschel gave a very emotional interview after his round yesterday, saying his confidence has never been lower.

Holes: Here are all the hole locations for the 2nd round of The Memorial.

Rory, Oh Rory: He had a great round and is still in contention, but tripled the final hole.

Three Cheers for The BRNR?

I can’t think of a better endorsement for a new product than this.

Pure, So Pure.

Jordan Spieth + Bunker = Magic.

Golf Thing We'd Buy If We Weren't Broke

This doesn’t fit under the category of “product” but if I wasn’t broke, I’d be all over this.

See, it’s the beginning of June, which means for the next few months it is prime time golf trip season. Now hopefully you’ve already figured out your plans for the summer, but if you and your crew still haven’t gotten your sh*t together yet, I found something kind of amazing for you.

It’s called golfzoo.com and it’s a place that can help you and the team figure out like a legit affordable way to spend your golf excursion.

I found this one, in particular, to be insane… you and your peeps stay at Talking Stick Resort and Casino in Arizona, and play TPC Stadium (Home of the Phoenix Open), Talking Stick, Eagle Mountain, and The Legacy from $244 per person per day!

There’s other excursions to choose from at all rates and places, you just gotta find the one that’s right for you and the squad!

That's all folks! Have a great weekend of golf.
